Seasons Eatings

One can’t go through the holiday season without hearing, seeing, or listening to a version of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” It is often held up to be one of the quintessential markers of the traditional holiday meal.  I’ve talked about some of the food in the story and how it may have come from America.

Title: Special Feature: The Christmas Cousins Christmas Carol – A Festive Season 2 Kickoff on Christmas Podcast Day
Christmas Cousins

🎄 After spending 3 months locked in a water tower, the Advent Calendar House has escaped in time for Christmas Podcast Day, a fake holiday originally made up for a hashtag back when social media was slightly less stupid.

It’s not Scrooge Sunday, but the theme for this year’s Christmas Podcast Day is “A Christmas Carol,” so I’m playing a long, but also cheating a little by covering both segments of a 1993 Christmas episode of “Animaniacs.”

You can follow #ChristmasPodcastDay on Facebook, Instagram, and that other one. And probably TikTok, but I’m not on that.

Title: CWFC 118 – A Sesame Street Christmas Carol (#ChristmasPodcastDay Bonus Episode)

Hello! Happy Christmas Podcast Day everyone! As all of us at the Christmas Podcast Network are talking about some of our favorite versions of A Christmas Carol, today I am going to look at a stage version – specifically I want to talk about how Charles Dickens performed a one man version of the novel, and how that carries on today through his Great Great Grandson, Gerald Dickens. I replay some clips from my interview with Gerald back in December 2020 where he talked about how he began to perform the Carol 30 years ago. I recommend you go and take a listen to the full episode!

Happy National Christmas Podcast Day!  The theme of today’s special event is for the many different Christmas podcasts to cover a version of Charles Dickens Christmas Carol.  Since we are the Festive Foreign Film Fans, we needed a foreign adaptation and we discovered the 1953 Italian film Non è mai troppo tardi, which means “It’s Never Too Late”.   Now, we have to apologize to our listeners because the subtitles for this film were AI generated, so they are not exactly perfect.  It was lucky that we know the story so well, or we might’ve been in trouble.  We had a scene where our main Scrooge character — Antonio Trabbi — just shouted “Orange”, which did not seem particularly relevant in the context of the film.  Or, when he has reformed and yells to the boy in the street, he calls out “What vegetable is today?”  Again, compared to what I recall, this does  seem to track the book.  SInce we are only discussing the movie, and not customs or music, this is a much shorter episode. Take the extra time to find and listen to other Christmas podcasts.  They cover different topics and are all great, and I promise they will lift your spirits.  Just seach for Christmas on APple or Spotify and see what comes up.   We did this a few years ago and look at us now — watching Italian movies about fruits and vegetables!

What’s up, dudes? It’s Christmas Podcast Day 2023! This year the Christmas Podcast Network is covering adaptations of “A Christmas Carol!” I’ve got Santa Ambassador Matt Spaulding from  North Pole Radio with me to talk about “The Real Ghostbusters” season 1 episode ‘Xmas Marks the Spot!’

The Ghostbusters are driving back from a bust when they inadvertently enter a rift in the space-time continuum. This time slip transports them back to London in 1837. They pick up massive readings in the PKE meter and follow them to their he house of Ebenezer Scrooge. Seeing ghosts, the boys take action and bust the spectral figures, not really they trapped the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. Scrooge is initially grateful, but quickly becomes flabbergasted when they demand payment.

When the ghostbusters return to the future, people are cruel and selfish, and it seems that Christmas has been eradicated. It turns out that Scrooge was so furious over having to pay for their services, that he wrote a book denigrating the holiday. The ghostbusters have no choice but to launch a counter operation on two fronts: Egon will go into the containment unit to retrieve the benevolent spirits, and Peter, Winston, and Ray will go back to the past and pretend to be the ghosts in order to scare Scrooge straight. Spoiler alert! They succeed.

Christmas carols? Check. Ebenezer Scrooge? Yep. Blonde wigs and pink tutus? Well…only if for pretending to be a ghost. So grab your proton pack, pick up your PKE meter, and hop in Ecto-1 to get to this episode all about “The Real Ghostbusters” ‘Xmas Marks the Spot!’

Check us out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Totally Rad Christmas Mall & Arcade, Teepublic.com, or TotallyRadChristmas.com! Later, dudes!
