Title: When you walk through the door, does it feel like you are being slapped in the face by Christmas? (How I Met Your Mother pt 1)
Tis the Podcast'

What’s up, dudes? I’ve got Robert Nicholas from Behind the Bells with me to talk all about the anthology special “Bugs Bunny’s Looney Christmas Tales!” Released in ‘79, right on the cusp of the ‘80s, it’s got 3 newly animated shorts held together by a loose framing device! Oh, and it’s quite fun and spectacular too!

The meta aspect of the special begins as Bugs Bunny, rehearsing his carolers, tells the tale of A Christmas Carol. Yosemite Sam is the miserly Scrooge who fires Porky Pig’s Cratchitt. Bugs, mischievous as ever, takes it upon himself to play the Ghost of Christmas. Sneakily, he haunts Sam by banging drums, pouring snow in his hot bath, and threatening to take him to see the “other” guy in the red suit.

As Bugs and gang sit for Christmas dinner, they congratulate each other on their acting performances of the Dickensian characters. Meanwhile, Wile E. Coyote eyes the turkey and immediately wishes he had roast roadrunner. The chase begins! Time and again the coyote is stymied by Acme products. His snow machine wallops him repeatedly, his sled dogs try to eat him, and his rocking horse leaves him.

Returning to the choir, Bugs leaves to read his nephew  A Visit from St. Nicholas. Unbeknownst to the rabbits, the Tasmanian Devil escapes his confinements and accidentally hijacks Santa’s sleigh team. Trying to avoid being eaten, Bugs tricks Taz into eating an inflatable raft, levitating him away.

Taz in a Santa suit? Check. Stuttering characters trying to sing? Yup. Wile E. Coyote constantly getting crushed by snow? Definitely! So grab your acme rocket skis, bang your drums really loudly, and trick your way into this episode about “Bugs Bunny’s Looney Christmas Tales!”

“I don’t need to see it. I lived it”

For Robert’s first ever Almost Christmas special, he wanted to pay tribute to the late Paul Reubens by looking at his 80’s classic, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure. The goal is to take the one moment of Christmas the movie has and see whether it comes close as a Christmas movie. But he also looks at some of his facorite moments from the movie and tells his stories of visiting the locations. Some include the Cabazon Dinosaurs and the Alamo.

Robert also looks into Paul Reubens background, he he created Pee-Wee Herman and how the movie came to be.

Almost Christmas: Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure

Behind the Bells

On this episode we’ve got Pac-Man Fever and it’s driving us crazy! Just two short years after the debut of the arcade hit Pac-Man, Hanna Barbera produced a Saturday morning cartoon all about the denizens of Pac-Land. And, naturally, a Christmas episode was soon to follow!

Joe and Bradford spend a good portion of this episode on video game chat, as you can imagine. But also we explain our original plans for this episode and why we had to scuttle them, as well as our nostalgia for defunct TV channels, and our own experiences with haunted hotels. And somewhere in all that we talk about how Pac-Man saves Santa!

What’s up, dudes? Tim Williams from the 80’s Flick Flashback and Joe Wade from Christmas Creeps join me to track down the Christmas in this Sylvester Stallone action movie from 1986!

Marion Cobretti is the lead cop on the Zombie Squad, known for his steely demeanor and lethal efficiency. After thwarting a hostage situation in the Christmas aisle of a supermarket, he suspects the Night Slasher killer is more than he seems. His theory is confirmed when Ingrid Knudsen witnesses a killing spree by several members of this social Darwinian organization. Now trying to protect her, Cobra moves her to a safe house to evade the killers. Unfortunately, a mole in the police force tips off the Night Slasher gang and a battle ensues! The mole and the gang leader are dispatched in spectacular fashion, and the day is saved!

Sunglasses? Check. Mid-movie photo shoot? Uh huh. Eating pizza with scissors?! Only Stallone could pull that off! So grab your gun, watch an entire Toys ‘R Us commercial, and never take off your sunglasses with this episode all about Cobra!

Tis the Podcast

Happy Monday, Christmas Fanatics!

This week, the always fabulous Kendall Farrae, of the upcoming “Two Girls, One Crypt” podcast, joins Julia, Thom, and Anthony in Chicago as they travel back in time half-a-decade to celebrate a big ‘ol Italian Christmas Eve by discussing the lone holiday episode (thus far) of Hulu’s/FX’s critically acclaimed show, “The Bear“! The episode in question? Episode 6 of Season 2, “Fishes”!

Listen as they discuss the tradition of the Feast of the Seven Fishes, which is a focal point of this episode, and gush over “The Bear” in general, including the fantastic roster of guest stars the show manages to bring together for this holiday extravaganza – including the always incredible Jamie Lee Curtis and Bob Odenkirk! Though a hectic, anxiety-inducing episode of television, “Fishes” feels real and familiar to all four hosts for many different reasons, and is a hell of an entertaining and incredible episode of stand-alone television! So settle in as the elves and their guest walk you through the plot chaotic-beat by chaotic-beat until they reveal just how Christmassy this episode is and whether or not it will enter their holiday canon!

Also discussed: what Kendall’s been up to since her last appearance on the show; a scary incident that recently occurred with Julia’s dog, Lucy; Thom’s recent trip to New York where he, Anthony, and Sarah got to hang out; and the fact that we are now officially in the home stretch and counting down the remaining days until the fast-approaching ‘Ber Months!

This is one jam-packed episode you want to be sure not to miss! So, settle back and enjoy! And, as always, thanks for your love and support, y’all! ❤️ 🎅🏻🎄🎁 🦌🦉⛄️🔔🚂 🤶🏻 🎀 ❄️
