39 weeks / 273 days until Christmas! (“Little St. Nick” Song Battle)

Chrismas Morning

Once upon a time, in the whimsical world of the Christmas Cousins Podcast, we embarked on a journey with Cousin Seth to explore the essence of each season and one of the ways we did that was through taste testing.

Little did we know that these tasting escapades would become a fan favorite, all thanks to Seth’s unpredictable reactions that range from absolute love to downright disgust.

Do you remember when we first introduced Seth to the enchanting world of pumpkin-spiced overnight oats? His reaction was priceless to say the least!

Then came the memorable moment when he took his inaugural sip of eggnog, with resulting in abject disgust.

And, more recently, who can forget the time Seth encountered a Cadbury cream egg for the first time? It was a rollercoaster of emotions that left us all in stitches!

Now, in our latest adventure, we’re diving headfirst into the sugary realm of Peeps marshmallows, a classic Easter and springtime delight.

With new flavors like party cake, cotton candy, and even Dr. Pepper, we can’t wait to witness Seth’s taste buds go on yet another wild ride. Will he declare newfound love for these fluffy treats, or will he have a reaction that rivals his past encounters?

Tune in to find out and enjoy the laughter, surprises, and maybe a few unexpected twists along the way!

Audience Question: What’s your favorite unconventional Easter or springtime treat that you enjoy indulging in during the season?

As always, we would appreciate a rating/review on iTunes or subscribe on Spofiy (and basically everywhere else you find podcasts) and check out our YouTube channel too @ChristmasCousinsPod.

It’s that time again! The gang’s all here as we take a listener request and dedicate this week’s episode to Daddy’s Home 2! Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg are all hunky dory as co-step-dads after the original Daddy’s Home, so what better way to test that familial bond than by bringing in their own dads (John Lithgow and Mel Gibson, respectively) to help celebrate the holidays and/or completely ruin them?

In this episode, we talk about all manner of weird garbage, from the weird logistics of Airbnb, to the complicated legacy of “Do They Know It’s Christmas”, imagining fake movies made up for this movie, the phenomenon of going to the movies on Christmas Day, and a whole lot more!

What’s up, dudes? Well, it seems that Little #1, Little #2, and Little #3 hijacked my recording studio and held their own episode all about the 1976 Rankin Bass Easter special “The First Easter Rabbit!” It’s an adaptation of the children’s book “The Velveteen Rabbit,” and it’s wild!

A young girl named Glinda gets a stuffed bunny for Christmas which she names Stuffy. She loves it unconditionally, but when she contracts scarlet fever, it has to be burned. Stuffy is approached by a magical sprite named Calliope, who transforms him into a real rabbit. She mandates that he become the first Easter Bunny.

Stuffy meets Santa Claus and moves into Easter Valley, an area of the North Pole perpetually existing in Spring. Unfortunately, an ice wizard (perhaps a former servant of Winterbolt?) named Zero steals the Golden Easter Lily, causing the valley to freeze and snow. Santa rescues Stuffy and helps him deliver his Easter goods to Glinda’s hometown. He also forces Zero to return the Lily. All’s well that ends well.

A fairy that knows substitutiary locomotion? Check. A Savage Land type headquarters? Got it. A remorseful sentient snowball? For sure! So grab your Easter eggs, put on your bonnet, and take Santa’s sleigh to this episode!

Happy Monday, Christmas Fanatics!

This week, to end TV month on a high note, Julia, Thom, and Anthony gather to discuss the one Christmas episode (so far) of the 2023 Paramount Plus revival, “Frasier“! For those following along at home, that’s Season 1 – Episode 10: “Reindeer Games”!

How does the revival compare to the original show? And what do the elves think of this specific holiday episode? Well, let’s just say, there’s a lot of gushing and laughing in this episode, so that should give you a hint!

Also discussed: a whole bunch of movies Anthony’s recently seen and plans on seeing, and a really interesting discussion on the complications of separating art from problematic artists, amongst many other things!

This is one stacked, fun, and festive episode you want to make sure not to miss! We guarantee it’s the perfect way to kick off your week! So settle back, enjoy, and – as always – thanks for your love and support, y’all! ❤️🎅🏻🎄🎁 🦌🦉⛄️🔔🚂 🤶🏻 🎀 ❄️

Tis the Podcast'

We are still in our post-St. Patrick’s Day reverie so the Festive Fans decide to head off to enjoy the Emerald Isle.  Mark is excited to celebrate the locale of his favorite film The Quiet Man and the home to three of his great-grandparents.  He is our resident leprechaun so he gets to present the Irish movie Kisses.  And no, it’s not about that famous blarney stone.  This film follows a young boy and girl who run away from their violent homelife at Christmastime. Although still young, they share a hardness in their eyes and cussing in their mouths, so it is not your typical holiday film.

It begins in black and white. Their lives are rendered in sad, bleak tones, which later turn to color when they escape to Dublin. They encounter musicians, street walkers, con artists and thugs, and yet the mood is still whimsical.  It has a vague hint of Christmas spirit about it — and these young teens deserve a touch of festive Irish magic in their lives, if only for a short time.

We explore some holiday customs like the killing of the wren, the Christmas morning polar swim, and Shloer, a special seasonal drink.  There is also “Women’s Christmas” or “Little Christmas” on the Epiphany, where it’s a girls’ night out with a suggestion of magic in the air.  We debate St. Patrick’s over St. Joseph’s Day.  Plus, we enjoy a song called Christmas the Way I Remember  by the High Kings.  It is part of the new era of folk music, modern but still  reflective and insightful like the traditional ballads.  Mark caps it off his family’s Christmas blessing.  It’s an episode that is all so very Irish.  Sláinte!

Welcome to episode 106 of Holly Jolly X’masu! In this episode, I talk about Akiko’s 2017 album, “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.”

I hope you enjoyed this second episode about Akiko. “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” has really grown on me since getting it, and while working on this episode. It’s a fine album with some great performances, and one I’ll be listening to more in the future.

Join me back here next week for my special April 1st episode. I’ll be talking about the 2008 album, “Whistle Christmas!” by Whistle Man. It’s a unique album you’re sure to enjoy. Then join me on April 6th for my Pro Wrestling Spectacular. This year is Wrestlemania LV. It’s the biggest wrestling event of the year and in conjunction with that, I’ll be covering the Christmas albums from the Destroyer and Thunder Sugiyama. I have a poll running, so click here to listen to samples from each of the albums and vote on which wrestler you feel deserves to be crowned the Christmas Heavyweight Champion. This listen in to hear the results.

As always, any feedback on this episode would be appreciated. If have any suggestions, or if you’d like to recommend a song or album for a future episode, drop me a line and let me know.

Remember, I’ve added a button to my Ko-fi page. If you’d like to support me one cup of coffee at a time, a donation is only $3. I’ve also opened a Redbubble store. I only have a couple designs up, but keep an eye on it as I’ll be trying to add more. Half of any proceeds or donations received will be donated to support the people of Ukraine, while the rest will be used to purchase new Japanese Christmas music to review for future episodes. You can also find me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. And if you get a chance, leave me a review on iTunes. Thanks!

Seasons Eatings

This towering dessert almost resembles a children’s stacking toy and sometimes there’s a prize hidden inside.  Made with just a few ingredients, it can be a bit tricky to make and can sometimes take generations to perfect.  And while its origins may have started in Greece, it has now become a Scandinavian tradition for many families over the holidays.  We’re exploring the history and origins of kransekake.

What’s up, dudes? I’ve got Mike Westfall from Advent Calendar House here with me during this Passiontide to talk the Rankin Bass Easter special shown throughout the ’80s, “Here Comes Peter Cottontail”! There’s a hyper-color witch, a time machine, and the longest Easter egg delivering contest ever! If you’re wondering if a French caterpillar with a human head can drive a time machine, the answer is yes!

The Chief Easter Bunny is looking for a replacement. Just as he’s about to name Peter Cottontail his successor, though, mean ol’ Irontail suggests an egg-giving contest to decide. Due to sabotage, Peter oversleeps and Irontail wins! Peter leaves in disgrace, but runs into Seymour S. Sassafras, who lends him a time machine.

Once again Irontail sabotages Peter, and he’s launched into the future rather than the past. Hopping from holiday to holiday, Peter tries to give away his eggs dressed as various holiday mascots. Unfortunately, it seems that no one wants eggs on holidays other than Easter!

Peter is on the verge of success when Irontail uses a spell to turn his eggs green. Distraught, Peter tries one last ditch effort on St. Patrick’s Day, and the green eggs are gleefully welcomed by the Irish revelers! Peter wins the contest, learns a lesson about making food choices and not fibbing, and becomes the new Chief Easter Bunny!

So grab your eggs and paints, dress up like your favorite holiday mascot, and put on this episode on “Here Comes Peter Cottontail” as you drive your yestermorrowmobile!
