Oh, you thought we weren’t gonna cover Rare Exports? Think again, buddy. Home for the Horrordays continues as Joe and Bradford tackle the granddaddy of Finnish holiday horror. The scary folklore version of Santa Claus descends upon a farming community, killing caribou and kidnapping children, and it’s up to young Pietari and his dad to find a way to save Christmas.

Also in this episode, we taste test Coca-Cola flavored Oreos AND Oreo-flavored Coca-Cola in an effort to keep up with the gross gimmick food trends. Nothing but the best audio content for our lovely listeners!

Behind the Bells

“That hat brought Frosty to life. It must be magic!”

We’re getting into the cooler months, which means snow should be coming soon. This means its time to talk Frosty the Snowman, a Rankin/Bass special that was nostalgic to Robert. It may be more geared to kids, but theres a lot of charm from the special.

Learn how songwriter Jack Rollins got his start in his forties in which he wrote a variety of songs including those for Lawrence Welk and Babe Ruth before he got into the holiday buisness. Also learn how Gene Autry repeated with Frosty the year after he sung Rudolph and how Jimmy Durante’s style would suite him to put out his own cover of Frosty.

What’s up, dudes? Jeremy Phelps the Alamo City Santa and Sean Sotka from the Christmas Podcasts Podcast join me to talk all about 1980’s “The Christmas Raccoons!” It’s an ”Inception”-like dream/reality hybrid of pink aardvarks lumber barons and talking raccoons. It’s also Canadian and narrated by Rich Little.

The trees begin to disappear rapidly. Someone is cutting them down, and Ranger Dan has to solve the mystery. As he goes off into the wilderness leaving his poor children at home, some plucky raccoons soon find their own dwelling chopped. Ralph, Melissa, and lazy Bert were decorating for Christmas too. What a shame.

As they investigate, they mistake the ranger’s children for the tree cutters and sneak into their cabin. It turns out, however, that the culprit is Cyril Sneer. The raccoons, along with their new sheepdog friend Schaeffer ambush Cyril, and get him to discontinue his assault on the Forest. Subsequently they move into the tree in front of the cabin.

College educated nerdy son? Check. Raccoon stockings? Got ‘em. Christmas tree Yggdrasil upon which Midgard hangs as an ornament? Definitely! So grab your coat, put on your scarf, and sled down to this episode on “The Christmas Raccoons!”

BREAKING NEWS: Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas Preview Part 1 with Joe, the Christmas Aficionado!

Christmas Cousins

Let’s face it – sometimes, Christmas can be hard. But does that mean we have to lose the joy of Christmas forever?

My guest today is Alexandra Walker – and she has just written a fantastic book called “Reclaiming Christmas” in which she explores her story of how Christmas was a difficult time for her, and the steps she took to reclaim the joy of Christmas. Healing is possible, and I think that her book can be a help to many who might find the season of Christmas difficult. I admit that abuse recovery is not a “cozy” topic, but we do focus more on the recovery aspect and steps you can take towards recovery, especially in connection with the Christmas season. It’s not all serious conversations though – we do also take time to talk about some of our favorite things about the Christmas season, including whether or not Brussel Sprouts should be a part of Christmas dinner…

Alexandra and I invite you to sit back and relax, and enjoy this cozy conversation that brought tears of joy to my eyes!

I’m excited to introduce you to my new friend Alexandra. Just so you know, I am not being paid to say these things – I think Alexandra has a genuine good product here, and I am personally benefiting from what I read in her book and from the discussion we had. Here are some links to her website and book, and you will find a full list of what she offers, including free gifts, 1:1 packages, group programmes and on-demand courses. The list is grouped into different categories – Sing After The Storm, Wellbeing Toolbox, Christmas, and Entrepreneurship. Enjoy browsing!
