What’s up, dudes? It was a special based on a seminal album of the ‘80s holiday seasons! Yes, Ken Kessler from Sounds of Christmas and Scott Leopold from Holly Jolly X’masu are with me to talk “A Very Special Christmas Party.” Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito, and more celebrate with Olympians.

Unfortunately, the beginning is cut off, so it’s unclear how the special started. Arnold and some Olympians discuss his singing, and  Barbara Mandrell recounts playing soccer, talking to a 50m freestyle swimming gold medalist. Next, DeVito and Arnold work out with some athletes. Randy Travis then tells us he thinks of food at Christmastide and sings “Winter Wonderland.”

Immediately following that, Susan Saint James tells us of Mark Arrowood kindness, and Mike Tyson talks basketball. Scott Hamilton and an Olympian ice skate together, and we see the entire group in church for a special reading by JFK, Jr. Finally, at dinner, everyone goes around the table lighting a candle representing their Christmas wish. Oh, and Santa shows up!

“Silent Night?” Check. “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town?” Got it. Actual songs from the album? Nope. Not really. So grab your sweater, light a candle, and make wish to this episode on  “A Very Special Christmas Party!”

What’s up, dudes? DuckTales! Woo-oo! It’s the theme song stuck in our heads for 30+ years! Yes, it’s Uncle Scrooge and the gang. Joe Martinez from Now Watch This and I dive into the DuckTales episode “Ducky Horror Picture Show!”

Scrooge has just succeeded in another business venture, showing monster movies in Duckburg’s newest theater. Consequently, he moves on to his next project, renovating a rundown convention center. Unbeknownst to him, a werewolf (wolfduck?) rents it out for his group of monsters, including Drakeula, Quackymodo, and Quackenstein. Scrooge has also unwittingly allowed them to stay in his mansion as a hotel.

As the creatures arrive, their antics cause mayhem and destruction, and his convention center. Subsequently, shenanigans ensue at his mansion as well. Further, the arrival of giant ape Ping Pong (get it?) causes a commotion at his money bin. As it turns out, though, the monsters begin to protest Scrooge’s theater, thinking it gives them a bad name. Instead, the join forces with Scrooge to put on shows and make each other money.

Monsters? Yep. Money making schemes? For sure. Duck puns? Indubitably! So grab your top hat and cane and listen to this show all about the DuckTales episode “Ducky Horror Picture Show!”

What’s up, dudes? Remember MTV? Remember when hen it first started showing something other than videos? We do! I’ve got Ken Kessler from Sounds of Christmas, Scott Leopold from Holly Jolly X’masu, and Vinnie Brezinsky from Huey and Bax here to talk Remote Control Christmas! Ken Ober hosted this season 3 episode.

It’s the infamous Christmas episode, and the round begins with the magi competing. Of course, wise as they are, they aren’t too knowledgeable about classic sitcom television. Consequently, they get all the questions wrong except those about Laverne & Shirley.

In round two, a set of real contestants—Joe, Keith, and Kimberly—compete for the prize. Colin Quinn sang twice, and Kari Wuhrer acted out a condensed version of A Christmas Carol.  Ultimately, Kimberly’s chair was flipped, leaving Joe against Keith.

Eventually Joe triumphed in the Think Real Fast round, but ultimately floundered in the Grand Prize round. He only identified 5 of the 9 music videos.

Melchior? Check. Balthazar? Got him. Shemp?! Well, Curly died… so grab your remote, eat your snacks, and watch tv with the episode on Remote Control Christmas!

What’s up, dudes? Tag, you’re it! Kevin Williams from ‘Tis the Soundtrack joins me to talk about Lazer Tag Academy “The Olanga Story!” Yes, it’s a Lazer Tag Halloween time travel adventure with Jamie Jaren and her ancestors!

Draxon Drear has a diabolical plan to stop the birth of Professor Olanga, the Jarens’s greatest ally. He and his Skuggs find a map to an ancient city in 13th century Africa where Olanga’s ancestors lived. On Halloween, while trick-or-treating, Olanga informs the Jarens of Drear’s plan and teleports them to the desert.

After meeting a street urchin, the Jarens are ambushed. They evade jackals and make their way to the city. Unfortunately, they’re caught by an evil twin of Olanga’s ancestor and thrown in a dungeon. Luckily they escape with the urchin’s help and track down the good twin. With some holographic trickery, the good twin reclaims the throne and the day is saved!

What’s up, dudes? Hey you! Michael May from After Lunch, Crestwood House, and Hellbent for Letterbox is with me to talk Robert Smith! Yes we’re digging into Christmas songs by The Cure!

On December 9, 1987, The Cure came out for a fourth encore and blasted through a cover of “Merry Christmas Everybody” by Slade. It was the final song on the third night at Wembley, the final show of The Kissing Tour.

Delving deeper, many of their songs allude to Christmas or romanticize Christmas as a state of happiness and content. For example, “Let’s Go to Bed,” Christmas is the metaphor for physical excitement and anticipation. Further, in “Other Voices,” a song about the sickness of lust, the protagonist asks his paramour to come around at Christmas for a festive compromise.

Similarly, in “Hey, You,” Smith asks the one who looks like Christmas to come kiss him.  “The Snakepit” and “Last Dance” also reflect themes of nostalgia and melancholy and Christmas.

Driving basslines? Check. Layered guitar and synths? Got ‘em. Eye liner and lipstick? Definitely! So grab your ax, play a catchy riff, and jam out to this episode on Christmas songs by The Cure!

After Ted makes a comment that he’s dead if his credit gets cut off after a few unpaid bills, Vicki types “Cut off credit – He’s dead!” into his bank account information on the computer. Ted tries to correct it at the bank, but they still don’t believe he’s alive even when standing in front of them. Consequently, he creates a plan to stage a fake funeral.

Meanwhile, Jamie tries to sell “Christmas tree seeds” to make money. He dresses up as Santa and has Vicki dress as a Christmas tree. They even play up their “sadness” at the fake passing of their dad to score some sympathy sales. In the end, Ted reveals himself as alive and regains his credit…and his life.

What’s up, dudes? I’ve got Ken Kessler from Sounds of Christmas here with me to talk about the fever dream “A Rock ‘N’ Roll Christmas!” Yes, it’s the love child of “It’s a Wonderful Life” and ‘Weekend Update’… and Christmas rock.

Dennis Miller hosts this event with interspersed segments of George Bailey trying to bring rock to Bedford Falls. Of course, in a show predicated on a pirate signal hacking a ‘traditional’ Christmas show, there has to be music. Subsequently, several bands provide holiday entertainment, including Eddie Money, Little Richards, and the Fabulous Thunderbirds!

In the meantime, clips of Ernest Saves Christmas are intercut over Bryan Adams. Several acts, like Jimi Hendrix and Elvis, are cut short to make room for the It’s a Wonderful Life parody. Pat Benetar provides a killer song via satellite, and popular videos from MTV by U2, Run DMC, and Buster Poindexter fill out the ranks.

It’s Christmas, and Jo just found out her plans to spend it with her mom are bust due to her mom’s work schedule. So Blair and Tootie cook up a fixed phony raffle to buy Jo a plane ticket to Miami. Consequently, when Jo learns of the deceit, she feels like a charity case and gives Blair the stink eye. Meanwhile, Mrs. Garrett tries to sell fruitcakes to earn a little extra income. She even has Mr. Lazaroni help out as Santa.

While Natalie awaits a coveted stereo, Tootie helps her get into the holiday spirit as well. Mrs. Garrett drives the three girls to the airport, and Jo and Mr. Lazaroni help her close up shop. What’s up, dudes? Thunder! Thunder! Thunder! ThunderCats Christmas! Hoooooo!!!! Nicholas Pepin of Pop Culture Roulette and Laramy Wells from Moving Panels join me to talk about the humanoid feline aliens!

In the issue #41 story ‘Footprints’ from 1987, Cat’s Lair is directly in the path of a creature called the Metokangmi! King Hanuman of Hook Mountain warns the ThunderCats, describing the destruction and fear in the creature’s wake. Every Rammastide (the Third Earth equivalent of Christmas which commemorates the first defeat of Mumm-Ra) the inhabitants live in fear. Fortunately, this year Cat’s Lair reminds the Metokangmi of its lost mate, and it just builds a snowman.

Subsequently, issue #89 sees WilyKit and WilyKat build a snowman in the shape of Lion-O. Of course, the Mutants decide to crash the ThunderCats’ Rammastide festivities, knocking over the snowman. Luckily, the intruder alarm alerted the heroes who quickly hid as snow sculptures and overtake the foes. The heroes then invite them in to celebrate.

Finally, in issue #128, Snarf is home alone preparing a feast on Rammas Eve, when a traveling salesman tries to cash in. The sidekick tries to haggle with him, making a huge mess. As the ThunderCats return, they invite Snarf and the salesman to the Tower of Omens for Rammastide.

In ‘Rubik’s First Christmas,’ the titular cube is traveling through Mexico for Christmas with the Rodriguezes. Their grandma, the town matriarch, is donating toys to all the children. Unfortunately, the truck is hijacked by two young hoodlums, who eventually give it to two thieving tomb raiders.

While chasing down the culprits, Rubik accidentally gets mixed up and falls out of the truck. The kids save and solve him just in time. Of course, they fly a prop plane to spot the thieves, and Rubik uses his power to trap them. Eventually, through the power of Lisa’s tears, Rubik transports them to the toys, and flies them reindeer-style to be delivered!

What’s up, dudes?  It’s one of the most depressing Christmas movies ever, and also a ripoff of “Pollyanna.” Yes, it’s “Prancer!” I’ve got Santa Ambassador Matt Spaulding from North Pole Radio, and Jeremy Phelps the Alamo City Santa here to discuss it.

In this 1989 film, 8yro Jessica Riggs believes in Santa Claus. Her father  and older brother  seem to believe she’s too old to do so, and even her best friend Carol has long since given up believing. When Jessica discovers a wounded reindeer in the woods near her home of Three Oaks, Michigan, she’s convinced it’s Prancer, Santa’s missing reindeer. Of course, she becomes determined to take Prancer to a local ridge so Santa can come and retrieve him.

Eventually, she tells a mall Santa she has the reindeer, and her belief becomes a source of  inspiration for the town.  Unfortunately, her dad, facing hard times, sells the animal. As she tries to free it, Jessica falls and injures her head. Her recovery and naïveté move her father, and he helps her return the reindeer to Santa.

Loud out of tune singing? Yup. Cantankerous reclusive widow? Got it. Ambiguous magical ending? Only with golden ‘80s special effects! So grab your copy of Yes, Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus, free Prancer, and lead him back to Santa with this episode!

What’s up, dudes? In 1989, Milton Bradley released a fun Christmas themed board game. I’ve got Little #3 with me to talk all about it! Yes, it’s Santa’s Special Delivery, and we played a couple of games.

The goal of the game is to be the first player to distribute their inventory of gifts and return to their home space. Each player chooses four gift tokens and a sleigh pawn, which is placed on the designated home space of the corresponding color. At the beginning of their turn, a player spins the spinner which is illustrated with six colors and a cheerful portrait of Santa. Subsequently, the player moves their pawn along the path to the color indicated by the spinner.

There are four types of stops along the board. Landing on a blank space ends the player’s turn. If a player lands on a gift box space, he/she drops off a gift at the nearest house. A star space means that the player could give a gift token to an opponent who still had gift boxes of their own to deliver. Finally, an arrow space offers a shortcut that moves players to a gift box space where they can drop off a present to the nearest house.

Once a player had delivered all their gifts, they move to the star space closest to home. From the star space, opponents race to be the first player to spin their home color to win the game.

What’s up, dudes? In memory of Ozzy, Duane Bailey from Tinsel Tunes and Matt Wheeler from Resurrection Metal Radio join me to talk 1988 Headbangers Christmas! Yes, it’s Christmas Eve on MTV’s Headbangers Ball, and Ozzy Osbourne and Zakk Wylde are hosting the festivities.

We’re introduced to a slew of ‘80s metal bands, but kicking off the festivities is Ozzy himself with “Crazy Babies!” Poison, Judas Priest, Winger, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, and Guns N’ Roses follow. Ozzy and Zakk have a great time introducing the videos. In fact, they even dress up in Santa hats. Ozzy even wears an odd mask  and a pirate hook.

Next up are videos from KISS, Hurricane, Alice Cooper, RATT, Aerosmith, and Cinderella. Ozzy suddenly appears in a picturesque Christmas fireside, but now inexplicably has on caveman feet and a club. Subsequently, videos from Lita Ford, Anthrax, Bad News (with the only Christmas song), Def Leppard, and Iron Maiden air. Finally, Hear N’ Aid sang “Stars” and Headbangers Christmas concluded!
