What’s up, dudes? Remember Dumbo? Well, he had an early Disney Channel Show, and I’ve got Mike Westfall from Advent Calendar House and Thom Crowe from ‘Tis the Podcast with me to break down the (quasi-) Halloween episode! Yes, it’s “Dumbo’s Circus!” Dumbo and friends get into a spooky mood!

Lionel, dressed in a Cobra Kai skeleton costume, surprises Dumbo and Sebastian while they’re doing chores. The creepy attire spurs Dumbo and gang to put on a spooky circus show. Meanwhile, Rinkum and Barnaby are delivering a package and get lost in the woods when their package rolls down a hill.  All the friends put on monster costumes, including a vampire, Jacob Marley Ninja Turtle, banana sheet ghost, and Hamburglar witch. They break up into pairs to head into the deep, dark woods to get supplies for their performance. Barnaby and Rinkum happen upon several of the friends in their macabre garb and are frightened, until they realize the spooks are merely Dumbo et al. After joining them, they do a Thriller  dance to end the show!

Spooky costumes? Check. Misunderstanding? Yep. Blatant ripoff of Michael Jackson? Definitely! So grab your costume, put on your chains, and dance along to this episode all about “Dumbo’s Circus!”

What’s up, dudes? I’ve got Robert Nicholas from Behind the Bells with me talking about the made for TV movie “A Hobo’s Christmas!” The Bernard Hughes/Gerald McRaney two-hander does Hallmark better than Hallmark!

Chance Grovner abandoned his family 25yrs earlier in order to find work to support them. With Christmas approaching and his age increasing, Chance leaves his friends to spend one more Christmas with his estranged son Charlie. Despite his anger and resentment, Charlie allows Chance to stay for Christmas to allow his own children to get to know their grandfather. They go skating, pick out a tree, and make hobo stew. As the days go by, they all grow closer, and Chance invites his hobo friends over for a huge family Christmas party! Chance tries to sneak away early in the morning, but Charlie and his kids go after him. Their declaration of love touches Chance, prompting him to leave his hobo lifestyle and stay with his family. Oh, and Charlie gets together with girlfriend for good. Yay, commitment!

Estranged father? Check. Love interest possibly moving away? Yep. Hobo stew? Only Chance’s legendary recipe! So grab your boots, pack up your bindle, and catch a train to this episode on “A Hobo’s Christmas!”

What’s up, dudes? Spooky season is here! I’ve got Michelle Kidwell from Michelle’s Spooky Library and Anthony Caruso from ‘Tis the Podcast with me to talk the Halloween episode ‘Hallowinnie‘ of the sitcom “Free Spirit!” It’s the 1989 sitcom about a good witch who becomes nanny(?)/housekeeper(?) to a divorcé and his 3 kids. Oh, and there’s Christmas in it too!

Jessie is waiting to see if she’s been accepted into the popular girls group the Debs. Meanwhile, Rob’s girlfriend has just dumped him, and his dad is eager to win a costume contest at his firm’s Halloween party. Jessie, in order to impress the Debs, holds her own Halloween party. It all goes wrong when Jessie is turned invisible and Winnie can’t undo the spell. Apparently, there’s so much magic being tossed around on Halloween night that Winnie’s power is diminished and running haywire. Luckily, while invisible, Jessie sees the Debs’ true colors, and, after Winnie finally fixes her spell, decides to dump them. They also fly their brooms across the moon. It’s a Halloween tradition, after all.

Corny jokes? Check. Zatanna-inspired costume? Yep. California raisin mistaken for rabbit droppings? Definitely! So grab your broom, put on your mask, and fly into this episode all about Halloween on “Free Spirit!”

What’s up, dudes? I’ve got Mike Westfall from Advent Calendar House, Chad Young from Horror Movie BBQ, and Tommy Coombs the Pop Daddy here to talk about the Christmas episodes of the 1988 syndicated game show “Funhouse!” Hosted by JD Roth, two teams competed in Christmas themed stunts for the opportunity to run through the Funhouse to win ultimate prizes!

The season 1 episode sees the red team face the gold team by making snowman, hanging ornaments, and stuffing presents in Santa’s bag. In the Grand Prix race, they alternate pushing Santa’s sleigh. The red team, having defeated the gold, run through the Funhouse and earn a bevy of prizes!

In the 1989 season 2 Christmas episode, the stunts were even wackier! The boys tossed reindeer noses to the girls to put on audience members! They spun a giant dreidel for candy and even matched ornament halves “I Love Lucy”-style! The Grand Prix had each team deliver presents to children of the world as Santa and Mrs. Claus! The red team emerged victorious and ran through the Funhouse for some great gifts and cash!

Schmutz? Check. Zany stunts? Uh huh. World’s worst Santa beard? Looking at you, JD! So grab your British Knights, collect the blue and white tokens, and try to win with this episode on Funhouse Christmas!

What’s up, dudes? 40 years ago, the Walt Disney World Very Merry Christmas Parade was broadcast live on National TV! Disney connoisseurs Mike Westfall from Advent Calendar House and Charlie Ague from Closer to Christmas and Ague Designs are here with me to break it down!

Joan Lunden and Mike Douglas host this 1983 Christmas parade with narration written by Doug Cody. The production was directed by Chico Fernandez. Tinkerbell opened the show, and Cinderella and her entourage processed down Main Street USA. Pinocchio and the Jungle Book crews followed right behind her.

The Alice in Wonderland performers come next, along with Herbie the Love Bug and a Dumbo’s Circus float. Soon followed the World Champion Percheron horses hitched to wagon commissioned by Disney. Goofy drove his jalopy immediately afterward, and Robin Hood and his Merry Men succeeded him.

After Carol Lawrence and the Voices of Liberty Singers performed at Epcot, Mary Poppins and Cruella de Vil glide down Main Street. The toy soldiers from “Babes in Toyland” march along, and Mickey and Minnie ride a coach behind them. Donald, Snow White, and Mrs. Claus follow on floats, accompanied by characters from Peter Pan, Chip and Dale, and the Hundred Acre Wood. Finally, Santa Claus himself flew in to close out the celebration.

Victorian garb? Check. Anthropomorphic bipedal reindeer? Yep. Endless commercials from Days Inn and Eastern Airlines? Definitely! So grab your a add and top hat, hop on a float, and ride down Main Street USA to this episode all about the Very Merry Christmas Parade!

What’s up, dudes? It’s another bonkers He-Man Christmas tale from the UK comics! This time I’ve got Jeff Loftin from Lost Christmas and Thom Crowe from ‘Tis the Podcast with me to break down the power of Grayskull!

Hordak has cast a spell that freezes men’s hearts, cutting out all hope. Desperate to lift this ice-fear, He-Man and the heroic warriors battle the evil Horde. Unfortunately, the villains escape through a portal leaving Eternia to the desolation.  In a last ditch effort to bring hope to his people, He-Man concocts a plan with Man-At-Arms to deliver presents to all children. The fruits of his labor are seen through the eyes of woodcutter Nik-Las and his daughter Mouse. The sudden appearance of the doll gave Nik-Las hope and Mouse the courage to speak after many silent years. The ice-fear was banished from the realm!

Cage of ice spears? Check. He-Man holding a basketball? Yep. Father Kis-Mus? Well…they tried, didn’t they? So grab the Sword of Power, fill a sack with toys, and stave off the evil Horde with this episode about He-Man Christmas!

What’s up, dudes? Remember the Brit-pop group XTC? Well, in 1983 they released a Christmas single under the pseudonym The Three Wise Men in order to test out a new producer, David Lord. Ken Kessler from Sounds of Christmas joins me to talk all about “Thanks for Christmas” and its B-side “Countdown to Christmas Party Time!”

The single had a few in jokes in the liner notes too! The writing is credited to Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar, the traditional Western names for the Magi. Credit was given to producer The Good Lord as well.

What’s up, dudes? I’ve got Robert Nicholas from Behind the Bells with me to talk all about the anthology special “Bugs Bunny’s Looney Christmas Tales!” Released in ‘79, right on the cusp of the ‘80s, it’s got 3 newly animated shorts held together by a loose framing device! Oh, and it’s quite fun and spectacular too!

The meta aspect of the special begins as Bugs Bunny, rehearsing his carolers, tells the tale of A Christmas Carol. Yosemite Sam is the miserly Scrooge who fires Porky Pig’s Cratchitt. Bugs, mischievous as ever, takes it upon himself to play the Ghost of Christmas. Sneakily, he haunts Sam by banging drums, pouring snow in his hot bath, and threatening to take him to see the “other” guy in the red suit.

As Bugs and gang sit for Christmas dinner, they congratulate each other on their acting performances of the Dickensian characters. Meanwhile, Wile E. Coyote eyes the turkey and immediately wishes he had roast roadrunner. The chase begins! Time and again the coyote is stymied by Acme products. His snow machine wallops him repeatedly, his sled dogs try to eat him, and his rocking horse leaves him.

Returning to the choir, Bugs leaves to read his nephew  A Visit from St. Nicholas. Unbeknownst to the rabbits, the Tasmanian Devil escapes his confinements and accidentally hijacks Santa’s sleigh team. Trying to avoid being eaten, Bugs tricks Taz into eating an inflatable raft, levitating him away.

Taz in a Santa suit? Check. Stuttering characters trying to sing? Yup. Wile E. Coyote constantly getting crushed by snow? Definitely! So grab your acme rocket skis, bang your drums really loudly, and trick your way into this episode about “Bugs Bunny’s Looney Christmas Tales!”

What’s up, dudes? Tim Williams from the 80’s Flick Flashback and Joe Wade from Christmas Creeps join me to track down the Christmas in this Sylvester Stallone action movie from 1986!

Marion Cobretti is the lead cop on the Zombie Squad, known for his steely demeanor and lethal efficiency. After thwarting a hostage situation in the Christmas aisle of a supermarket, he suspects the Night Slasher killer is more than he seems. His theory is confirmed when Ingrid Knudsen witnesses a killing spree by several members of this social Darwinian organization. Now trying to protect her, Cobra moves her to a safe house to evade the killers. Unfortunately, a mole in the police force tips off the Night Slasher gang and a battle ensues! The mole and the gang leader are dispatched in spectacular fashion, and the day is saved!

Sunglasses? Check. Mid-movie photo shoot? Uh huh. Eating pizza with scissors?! Only Stallone could pull that off! So grab your gun, watch an entire Toys ‘R Us commercial, and never take off your sunglasses with this episode all about Cobra!

Well, Ashley Dunbar from the Magic of the Season and CJ Bélanger from Christmas Sessions join me to talk all about this mashup of “Mannequin” and Sesame Street! In Christmas: Part 1, Jodie, Sam, and Muffy are leaving Jeff alone on Christmas Eve to spend the holiday with their families. Meanwhile, Santa gives a couple of elves leave to make mischief. As Jeff prepares to decorate the tree, his friends appear to spend Christmas with him. Aw, you guys! They don’t want him to be alone! Oh, and Sam gets thrown into a drunk tank until the elves bail him out. Christmas: Part 2, sees the mischievous elves steal and hide all the gang’s presents! They search and search, until Jodie finds the book her friends bought her. It’s a cocaine-fueled story about Jack Frost, though we didn’t know at the time.
