Merry Little Podcast of MyMerryChristmas.com

Christmas of the 20th Century takes a very progressive turn in Part 3 of this series, this one covering the 1920s.

It was a time of technological explosion and it touched nearly every part of Christmas. American homes were increasingly converted to electric service, making the use of washing machines, dishwashers, lights, and every imaginable appliance now a fact of modern living.

There were many devices that affected Christmas: the radio, the phonograph and the light bulb. All of these had a huge impact on Christmas.

In this episode we explore how Christmas changed with these innovations – and how Christmas played a part in bringing each to market.

Music was the biggest benefactor in bringing the industry of sound recording together with radio broadcasting. For the first time, diverse types of Christmas music were heard all over the country. And the country rose up to embrace it.

This episode features a wide variety of recorded music from this era known as the Roaring 20s.

There were other innovations that impacted thing – even non-electric stuff such as cameras and telephones. These items and how they were marketed, especially at Christmas, would go on to influence Christmas for generations.

Underlying all this innovation was a progressive time especially for women. This is another topic of exploration that, again, would influence Christmas more in the decades ahead.

This is a fun and expansive episode. In fact, we could – and probably will – get another couple of episodes out of this glorious time in Christmas history.

Happy Tuesday, Christmas fanatics! Welcome to the thirty-seventh official installment of “Another Christmas Story”!

Due to some unforeseen scheduling confusion last week, this episode is a few days late – so apologies for that! In addition, this installment will not be read by our very own Thom Crowe. Instead, it will be read by Matt Spaulding of “2 Broke Geeks“, “The F.B.I.’s Most Unwanted“, and “Green Mountain Santa“, who brings to life this installment of our tale: Chapter Thirty-Six, entitled, “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)”! We hope you like it! The days are getting shorter… A chill is in the air… The smell of candy corn lingers… That can only mean one thing: It’s time for HOME FOR THE HORRORDAYS!

For this year’s spookytimes, we’re spotlighting a pair of holiday horror sequels. On this episode, our pal Stuart joins us to bear witness to the wanton police brutality of Maniac Cop 2! They thought they killed the zombie cop the first time around, but now he’s back and he’s making some new friends…

Obviously, the idea of a maniac cop hits differently than it did in 1990. But that doesn’t mean the film isn’t without its pleasures. For one thing, there are some truly spectacular car chases and shootouts. Action hounds will be right at home here…

Happy Monday, Christmas fanatics! Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day and, to our Canadian friends and family, Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

Join Julia, Thom, and Anthony as they continue their journey through Spooky Season by traveling back in time to the fictional town of Woodsboro, California – 1996 – to cover the satirical-horror film, “Scream“! While this is one of Anthony’s favorite movies of all time, Thom hasn’t seen it since it came out and Julia has never seen it in full despite it being such a cultural zeitgeist! What do our two Oklahomans think of it? Does it stand the test of time or is it outdated? And did the film set out to fulfill its mission of not only deconstructing the most iconic scary movies that everybody knows, but also becoming one of the greats itself? Tune in to find out the answers to all of these questions and much, much more in this fun episode full of well-researched (for once!) trivia and a wide-ranging discussion!

Also in this episode, the elves read listener feedback regarding the following questions:

  • 1. Who would you cast in a “Sesame Street” version of “A Christmas Carol“?
  • 2. What is the worst Christmas gift you’ve ever received?
  • 3. What are the “rules” to survive an episode of “Tis the Podcast“?

So, settle in with your favorite Autumn-flavored drink, open those windows to let in that Fall breeze, and enjoy! This is one spooky episode you want to be sure not to miss!

And if you want even more “Tis the Podcast“, check your podcast feeds this upcoming Tuesday (tomorrow!) to hear Chapter Thirty-Six of “Another Christmas Story” entitled “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)”, which Matt Spaulding of “2 Broke Geeks“, “The F.B.I.’s Most Unwanted“, and “Green Mountain Santa” will be reading to you! The delay comes after a bit of confusion in which both our very own Thom and Kim Cooper, of “Planning for Christmas” both ended up reading Chapter Thirty-Seven, so Chapter Thirty-Six wasn’t ready to release next week as it wasn’t recorded! Never fear though, in addition to Chapter Thirty-Six dropping tomorrow, check your feeds this upcoming Thursday to hear a mash-up of both Thom and Kim reading Chapter Thirty-Seven of our tale, entitled, “Fairytale of New York”! Enjoy, y’all! 🎅🏻🎄🎁 🦌🦉⛄️🚂🔔 🤶🏻 🎀 ❄️
