No, you don’t, because you’re thinking of “Once Upon a Time,” which didn’t have a Christmas episode, which was rude. But we’re going back an even longer time ago to the enchanted year of 1987 to meet The Charmings, who did have a Christmas episode!

🐰 It’s Easter in July, and those two things together are the least confusing thing about today’s episode. In 1971’s “Here Comes Peter Cottontail,” the first Rankin/Bass non-Christmas holiday special, it’s a race across the calendar to reclaim the title of Chief Easter Bunny from the evil January Q. Irontail, voiced by Vincent Price.

The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers “Marshmallow Trees” (w/ Kevin Williams)

What’s up, dudes? It’s a space cowboy cartoon from the ‘80s. No, not BraveStarr. Kevin Williams from ‘Tis the Soundtrack joins me to talk about The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers “Marshmallow Trees!”

Zozo and Rangers Niko and Buzzwang introduce kiwi  trees to the planet Granna. Unfortunately, the planet’s two suns have an adverse effect on the trees, making them complete their entire cycle of growth in one night. It also causes them to grow 100 times their normal size. The planet will be overrun by the trees if a genetically engineered breed of gobblebugs aren’t used to destroy the crop.

Rangers Doc and Zachary Foxx arrive with the bugs and to provide support for Niko and Buzz. Consequently, the residents of Granna don’t think the bugs are a good idea at all. It turns into a free for all, as everyone commandeers everyone else’s vehicles trying to stop the Rangers from releasing the bugs. Foxx activates his series-5 implant and uses his bionic arm blaster to stop the chase. The bugs eat the trees and turn into flowers.

Marshmallow trees? Yep. Cybernetically enhanced space cowboys? For sure. Jingle Bells? Only briefly in the score. So grab your series-5 enhancements, hop on your cyber steed and listen to this Galaxy Rangers “Marshmallow Trees” episode!

Season 3, Episode 1 – Phantom Owl Forest (Estonia)

Festive Fans Unite! (send us a message)

And so it begins … in Estonia!

We kick off the Festive Fans new season in this small but mighty Eastern European country.  Estonia is a captivating place with considerable natural assets, and, as Mark reminds us, feminine beauty.  Just ask him to name five models from there.  It is no wonder that our film addresses Estonians deep respect for the outdoors.  This is one of the most forested countries in Europe, with over half of its land covered in dense woods, scenic coastlines, and well-preserved natural areas.

The best journeys often begin in the most unexpected places, so Estonia is the perfect location to launch our third season.  This location not only sports medieval streets and ancient castles, but it is a cutting-edge technology hub.  The blend of old world and modern technology is a lot like the Festive Fans – two senior guys who may have stumbled into a recording studio looking for the bathroom.

Our new season provides us fresh ideas and possibilities.  We want it to be a lot like Estonia – compact yet bold, and familiar but full of surprises.  Estonia, despite its size, has reinvented itself since regaining independence in the 1990s.  There is a sense of ambition and entrepreneurship there.  Despite our limited niche, we plan to embrace the scrappy, can-do spirit of Estonia and apply it to our podcast.  We will adopt that Estonian charm and love for surroundings, as we take you along on our yuletide adventures to those always curious but less explored places…  Let’s have a wild ride!

We start the show with a Christmas Not So Classic. The Pet Shop Boys were massive in the 80s and still going strong in the 90s. In 1995 they recorded a Christmas song just for their fanclub members. It’s call It Doesn’t Often Snow At Christmas, and it’s okay I suppose. Have a listen here:
