In this massively merry season finale of the hit Christmas podcast Christmas Countdown, hosts Eric Petersen and Danny Jordan are joined by Producer Chris to count down their Top 5 Christmas Books — the stories that shaped their love of the season, warmed their hearts, and earned a permanent spot on the holiday bookshelf. From childhood classics to meaningful modern reads, each host shares their 5–1 picks, why they chose them, and what makes each Christmas book truly unforgettable.

Eric and Danny also reflect on what’s been happening in their lives as they prepare for Christmas 2025, play a few festive rounds of the fan-favorite holiday game “Christmas Clash” (yes, chaos is guaranteed), and—as always—get delightfully lost in random holiday (and non-holiday) banter that feels like hanging out by the fire with old friends.

PLUS… surprise guests! Five mystery celebrity guests pop in throughout the episode to say hello, join the holiday fun, and share their own Top 3 Christmas countdowns. Think you can guess who they are? Here are your clues:

You’ll want to stick around for every single guest…and a VERY special surprise at the end of the episode.

So grab a blanket, pour a festive drink, and settle in for a joyful, heartfelt season finale that celebrates the stories that make Christmas magical.

What’s up, dudes? It’s the comic strip about a typical family, and they made a special about it! Scott Leopold from Holly Jolly X’masu, Matt Wheeler from Resurrection Metal Radio, and I talk For Better or For Worse “The Bestest Present!”

Willy Patterson takes her son Michael and daughter Lizzie Christmas shopping at Philpott’s. Unfortunately, during the experience, Lizzie loses her favorite stuffed bunny. Seeing his daughter distraught, John goes back and searches high and low for it. He can’t find it, though the night watchman does.

Consequently, Michael asks if he can put an ad in the paper to see if anyone has found it. The night watchman reads the ad and mails the bunny back to the Pattersons on Christmas Eve. Lizzie is so ecstatic, she invites the watchman Mr. Lederhaus over for Christmas dinner. Michael had promised a reward, so he offers his meager savings. Mr. Lederhaus feels grateful just to be with people on Christmas.

A snowman? Check. A homemade bunny? Uh huh. A moldy orange? Only if it’s offered to a friend! So grab your bunny and go shopping to this episode on For Better or For Worse “The Bestest Present!”

🎄 Rise and shine while you still can! Since this year’s December Solstice falls on a Sunday, I’ve come bearing the gift of an unexpectedly very merry Scrooge Sunday episode of “Xena: Warrior Princess” from 1996.

April Ryley and Sammy Hain join the mission to warm the cold heart of a king who’s banned all Solstice celebrations on an almost wibbly-wobbly timeline that manages to smash together “A Christmas Carol,” the Three Fates of ancient Greek tradition, a Santa Claus origin story, and the Nativity. It even throws in some “Home Alone” style shenanigans, as a treat!

📺 As of this recording, “A Solstice Carol” is available to watch on Prime Video.

Merry Christmas! Today I’m back to spend a little more time with Mrs. Claus, and yes, the Christmas vibes are cranked all the way up! I share some traditions and memories sent in by listeners, then review a delightful new book, What Would Mrs. Claus Do? by Pamela McColl and Lindsay Stewart. I read a few favorite quotes and offer my thoughts on both the book and Mrs. Claus herself. After that, we gather by the Christmas fire for a reading of the narrative poem “Goody Santa Claus”—with “Goody” being an old-fashioned way of saying “Mrs.” I also dive into the life of the author of the poem, Katharine Lee Bates. She was an American author best known for penning the lyrics to America the Beautiful. When it first appeared, it helped give Mrs. Claus her own voice in Christmas literature. Wherever you find yourself this week, I hope you’re able to slow down, stay cozy, and savor the joy of the Christmas season.

What’s up, dudes? ‘Tis the season to be shopping! Hopefully you found the toys for which you were looking. We definitely wouldn’t want a Jingle All the Way situation.

On Monday, December 12, 1983, Carol Ann Campbell, staff writer for the York Daily Record, published an article. In “The Quest for a Very Dashing Hulk of Plastic,” she interviews several retail store owners. They enumerate the problem of low orders and large sales booms. Poor sales the previous two holiday seasons resulted in manufacturer overproduction and post-Christmas toy surpluses.

Consequently, parents are scouring their communities and nearby cities to find the one gift their children each want. From He-Man to My Little Pony, from Cabbage Patch Kids to Knight Rider, toys are selling out faster than stores can stock them. Some parents, however, are turning toward perennial board game favorites like Battleship.

Kiddie Town? Check. K&K Toys? Got it. Toys ‘R’ Us? Only in my memories… So grab your keys and drive all over town to this episode on ”The Quest for a Very Dashing Hulk of Plastic!”

Total Christmas

Merry Christmas you beautiful people!

It’s our last episode of the year and it’s packed in like 50 elves in a single Christmas stocking.

We start the show with Santa Claus is Not Coming To Town and Todd Polte shares the story of how he found out the truth about Saint Nick.

Next up it’s our yearly visit to see Shelli and Frank Arnold’s Christmas village. It’s a spectacular sight and if you check out my facebook page there should be some pictures there.

Then it’s Where Are You Christmas, and Bob Baker looks at Christmas in Lapland.

This episode’s version of A Christmas Carol is one of the worst yet. It’s a modern day version with Dean Cain and it’s just awful.

Here’s a link: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt37266428/?ref_=fn_t_10

Ever wondered what the term ‘Guv’nor’ means, well Bob Baker is going to explain it all for you in Do You Hear What I Hear.

Check out Bob’s podcast here:  https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/

Then it’s The Christmas Quiz and you can test your Christmas knowledge against Jeanie Mulligan from Ireland. It was a low scoring episode for both of us.

This episodes recommendation is I’m Not Complaing with Robin and Juno. Each week my two young daughters aged 10 and 5, tell jokes, talk about what they’ve been up to and argue. I think you’ll enjoy it.
