It’s Christmas time everyone! And Grace and I get the opportunity to interview singer Johanna Jones about her new album “It’s Christmastime”… the album is out already, (which I completely flubbed on, blame it on the COVID brain I had at the time lol!) and it’s available everywhere. (See link below!)
Then Grace and I discuss our thoughts about the new interactive Zoom play put on by the Birmingham Children’s Theater. And finally I read a couple of selections from Nancy Carey Johnson’s book A Vermont Homesteader’s Christmas Memories.
Christmastime is here, whether you are ready or not!

Jon takes over for the second episode of our animated shows week, revisiting American Dad to examine the fifth season episode Rapture’s Delight (available on Hulu). With this unconventional Christmas tale charm the boys enough to be considered a Christmas Classic, or will it’s post-apocalyptic setting make it too difficult to overcome being called a Lump of Coal? Only way to find out is to listen!
Non-Christmas topics include: hugging during the panny, Tik Tok, office work, Jon’s piercing experiences, Brian bringing big Wife Guy energy to show, movies that aired on TNT, jumping the shark, and the best and worst Starburst flavors.

Gerry D from Totally Rad Christmas told us “Like The Terminator, I’ll be back.” And he was! We are joined for the second time for the second movie in The Christmas Chronicles Collection. Holli went wild and had some coquito and couldn’t stop doing a New Zealand accent because Ricky Baker was in the movie. Scarlett thought she took a small nap during the film and ended up missing the entire middle. Gerry D was his cocoa-sipping tubular self with great parental insight and his hip lingo. We have an awesome time talking about the movie.

It’s episode 19 and once again it’s packed to the gills.
We have not one, but two Santa Claus is Not coming to town stories for you, plus Benji Pearson shares his story of decorating the family Christmas tree.
The gift suggestion is for those ungrateful kids who ‘forget’ to send a Thank You card. It’s a pack of Thank You cards for the kids to colour in and then send back to you. Sometimes you just need to give them a gentle hint. Here’s a link: www.theillustratedsaying.co.uk
I have an interview with our lovely listener Shelli Arnold, who talks to us about the model Christmas village she makes each year. Make sure you check out the Facebook page to see just how impressive the village is.
This week’s version of a Christmas Carol is set in modern day Scotland and on a very low budget, the film makers show us just how bad a version of a Christmas Carol can be. I’m not providing a link as I don’t want to put you through having to watch it.
Then it’s something a bit different. I have a film review of the 2014 movie Christmas, Again, and then I have an interview with the director Charles Poekel.
This film instantly became one of my all time favourites and we have a give away, so email me with your address and I’ll put your name in the hat to win a DVD of Christmas, Again.

It’s time to catch a last-minute flight to the North Pole and do the monkey with me back to 2001 for an out-of-order dive into “A Johnny Bravo Christmas,” a well-deserved punch in the face that’s a little bit rock ’n’ roll.
On This Episode:
Mike Westfall (@fallwestmike), former blond pompadour-haver until my wife said she liked my hair better short.
James Riley (@yourbuddyspooky), flying through the skies above the Arctic with his magic umbrella.
Topics and Tangents:
“’Twas the Night,” a 1997 segment of “Johnny Bravo” which this special accounts for in the show’s continuity… sort of.
“Larry & Steve,” Seth MacFarlane’s short film for the “What a Cartoon!” show which would become a rough template for “Family Guy.” After this short, Seth worked as a staff writer for “Johnny Bravo.”
The Bravos appear to be of a dying breed of people who wait till Christmas Eve or a few days before to start decorating.
This special first aired less than 3 months after 9/11, on Pearl Harbor Day, and opens with Johnny unnecessarily calling the fire department to tell them he’s “the bomb.”
Santa’s village is hidden behind a fake mountain acting as a Wakanda-like cloaking device, and also looks like the Wicked Witch’s castle from “The Wizard of Oz.”

Who better to cover A Christmas Prince with than a prince? Scarlett and Holli are joined by His Imperial Highness Prince Nazım Ziyaeddin Nazım Osmanoğlu, Imperial Prince of the Ottoman Empire, Member of the House of Osman. But just call him Naz. We discuss proper curtsying, how hot Turkish princes are, and shameful teenage thoughts about sexy Borg Queens. Oh… and we also talk about the movie. Naz joined us via zoom from London, so that’s why it sounds the way it does. But be prepared to laugh, because he is a DELIGHT. Where you can go to support our guest Naz Osmanoglu:Twitter, Facebook,InstagramIf you’re based in Europe, he will be on a stand up comedy tour (when it’s safe) so be on the look out for that. Shepherds and Angels are forever a part of the Christmas story. But why? And what things can we learn from them? In this exploration of a different angle on the Nativity story we ask a lot of questions. The idea is not to cast doubt. It is to celebrate clear facts — surprising things about the shepherds and angels that you may not know.
In this merry episode we discuss the part that shepherds in particular played in the story. They were a curious choice for being key witnesses to the most heralded event in human history. Scholars do not agree about who they exactly were and what they may have known before that night of angelic manifestation. But there is a lesson to be learned by what they saw and how they reacted to it.
Angels too are an interesting element of the Christmas story. For many people, angels are a fact of everyday life. Why are there angels? What is their purpose? Why did so many involved in the story of Christmas see angels?
This is a celebration as well of beautiful Christmas music, including:

A new week means a new theme, and Brian kicks off a weeklong look at animated shows with “A Very Venture Christmas” from the first(ish) season of The Venture Bros. (available on Amazon Prime). As Chris tries to understand what exactly happened in this episode, Brian and Jon delight in this merry holiday adventure from the early years of the Adult Swim programming block.
Non-Christmas topics include: pop-culture references, Holland, being smart, Rick & Morty, Magic the Gathering, and Patrick Warburton impressions.
On this week’s episode, we talk about the 2019 Netflix Original Holiday Rush starring Romany Malco and Sonequa Martin-Green. We discuss how spoiled the kids are and how they grow. There’s a dead ghost wife. Mini horses. Radio deejays and producers. Crazy bank loans. Hot older ladies that are into Sesame Street. We also get to hear a real-time reaction from Scarlett about the final dress reveal, her favorite part of holiday movies. There was a lot going on in this movie but overall we loved it. Let us know what you think! Since this movie goes into holiday music, Holli found a Spotify playlist for the movie. Disclaimer: This podcast contains spoilers and swears.

This week, Thom gets a partner in his efforts to troll Anthony, while Julia gets another woman to balance out the gender dynamics on the podcast, when April Ryley returns to join the elves in covering Netflix’s 2020, original holiday musical film, Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square! While all four are huge Dolly Parton fans, and three of the four really enjoyed Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love, does this overly cheesy and overly stuffed riff on It’s a Wonderful Lifelive up to the standards that they expect of Queen Dolly? Or are Dolly and Christine Baranski not even enough to save this musical full of questionable tunes? Also discussed this episode, the time Anthony and April met in New York, Julia’s upcoming Disney vacation, and Thom’s Thanksgiving! We also learn more about Jewish culture thanks to April! This is one fun, laugh-a-minute episode you want to be sure not to miss, so settle in beside the Christmas tree with your favorite holiday beverage and enjoy!
