Welcome to episode 88 of Holly Jolly X’masu! In this episode, I talk about the 1988 compilation, “Winter Tales,” from the MIDI label.

As I said in the episode, this is a really solid album. You’d be hard pressed to find a more varied group of artists, but the resulting product flows together well. There really isn’t a bad track here. I hope you found at least a few you enjoyed.

Be sure to join me back here in a few days for the 1992 follow-up, “Winter Tales 2.” Then listen in next month as a I cover a great Jazz album from 2008, Yuki Izumine’s “Let It Snow!”, and another great compilation, “Christmas Songs,” from 2010. You’re sure to enjoy them.

As always, any feedback on this episode would be appreciated. If have any suggestions, or if you’d like to recommend a song or album for a future episode, drop me a line and let me know.

Remember, I’ve added a button to my Ko-fi page. If you’d like to support me one cup of coffee at a time, a donation is only $3. I’ve also opened a Redbubble store. I only have a couple designs up, but keep an eye on it as I’ll be trying to add more. Half of any proceeds or donations received will be donated to support the people of Ukraine, while the rest will be used to purchase new Japanese Christmas music to review for future episodes. You can also find me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. And if you get a chance, leave me a review on iTunes. Thanks!

A 1980’s Style Totally Rad Christmas Episode!

Christmas Cousins

What’s up, dudes? I’ve got Mike Westfall from Advent Calendar House, Chad Young from Horror Movie BBQ, and Tommy Coombs the Pop Daddy here to talk about the Christmas episodes of the 1988 syndicated game show “Funhouse!” Hosted by JD Roth, two teams competed in Christmas themed stunts for the opportunity to run through the Funhouse to win ultimate prizes!

The season 1 episode sees the red team face the gold team by making snowman, hanging ornaments, and stuffing presents in Santa’s bag. In the Grand Prix race, they alternate pushing Santa’s sleigh. The red team, having defeated the gold, run through the Funhouse and earn a bevy of prizes!

In the 1989 season 2 Christmas episode, the stunts were even wackier! The boys tossed reindeer noses to the girls to put on audience members! They spun a giant dreidel for candy and even matched ornament halves “I Love Lucy”-style! The Grand Prix had each team deliver presents to children of the world as Santa and Mrs. Claus! The red team emerged victorious and ran through the Funhouse for some great gifts and cash!

Schmutz? Check. Zany stunts? Uh huh. World’s worst Santa beard? Looking at you, JD! So grab your British Knights, collect the blue and white tokens, and try to win with this episode on Funhouse Christmas!

“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is to sing loud for all to hear”

It took longer then he thought, but Robert’s finally ready to dive back into the world of Elf. Along with continuing the adventures of the writer David Bernenbaum, he also goes into how Jon Favreau went from an actor to stepping behind the camera.

Learn how a lot of the script got changed, how Will Ferrell tried to make it racier, how they used a mental asylum to film a majority of the movie, how Jon fought to keep his movie family friendly and how it would bat out ofther family movies like the Looney Tunes and The Cat in the Hat. He also goes into why Elf has remained timeless.

Tis the Podcast

Happy Monday, Christmas fanatics! And happy last episode of September! Can you believe how quick this month went by? We sure can’t!

This week, Julia and Anthony begin to transition the show into Spooky Season by discussing the 2006 remake, “Black Christmas” – the last of the “Black Christmas” movies they’ve yet to cover!

What’s that you say? They’re covering schlocky, slasher horror? Yes indeed, and you know what that means! To join the conversation, they welcome the always awesome horror fanatics, Jay Skipworth and Ron Hogan of “Film Strip Podcast“,  onto the show to discuss it with them!

How does this iteration of “Black Christmas” compare to the original 1974 version and the abysmal 2019 version? You’ll just have to tune in to find out in an episode full of pop culture trivia and an episode that introduces “Tis the Podcast“‘s newest segment: “Julia’s Adventures in Vudu-Land”!

So settle in with your pumpkin spice lattes, grab an Apple Cider donut, relax, and enjoy this fun-filled episode! And get excited – because we kick off Spooky Season “proper” next week as we enter October, and you know what that means! That’s right – we’re barreling even closer to Christmas! It is truly the most wonderful time of the year! ❤️ 🍂 🎃🎅🏻🎄🎁 🦌🦉⛄️🔔🚂 🤶🏻 🎀 ❄️

You need to Czech out our latest episode.  It’s heavenly!  We review the 2005 Czech film Andĕl Pánĕ and it is a hellish good time.  This festive fairy tale features Patronel, a bumbling angel; his boss God; and, a handy squad of versatile Saints, all on call.  Also, we meet Patronel’s satanic guide Urias, who observes the escalating chaos with a knowing wink and a devilsh grin.  If that is not enough entertainment, we explore other celestial celebrities such as Jezisek, Baby Jesus who flies through the window on Christmas Eve to bring gifts to the Czech children.  Also, Mikulus, the patron saint who visits Czech homes to judge the children’s behavior, accompanied by two familiar friends – an angel and a devil.  Finally, all of this is capped off by Czech singer Ewa Farna and her 2017 holiday hit “Vánoce na míru” meaning  “Christmas in Peace”.  Even after five years, it hit the top of the charts again in 2022.  So don’t miss out on all the fun – it’s like a giant birthday party for Jesus in heaven!
