Tis the Podcast

Ho, ho, ho! In this festive edition of “Tis the Podcast”, we’re bringing back the 90’s to dive into the comedic chaos of the 2023 Christmas movie, “Urkel Saves Christmas: The Movie!“, based on the classic TV show, “Family Matters“!

Before analyzing the antics of Steve Urkel as he tries to make Christmas better (and fails on every level), the elves talk Disney World and Anthony introduces his new podcast “Change My Movie Mind,” in collaboration with “Film Strip Podcast‘s” Jay Skipworth.

We then head back to the North Pole to dissect the awful musical cartoon version of Steve Urkel. Is it as all cringeworthy, or does it occasionally, and unexpectedly, hit the right notes? Find out in our in-depth discussion!

For all you ghostly fans, stick around until the end where we talk the upcoming “Beetlejuice” sequel, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice“! To quote the ghost with the most, “It’s showtime”!

So, grab a mug of hot cocoa, put on your favorite ugly Christmas sweater, and join us for a trip down memory lane. Remember, Christmas isn’t just a season, it’s a feeling! 🎁🎄🎅

Until next time, stay frosty! And make sure to keep the Christmas spirit alive all year round. Happy listening!

Hynie-Thon 2024: Day 1 – Navigating the “Hynie-verse” with Michelle

Christmas Cousins

What’s up, dudes? Christmas in the Underworld was NOT my idea! That’s right! It’s a Percy Jackson Christmas in this bonus episode with my daughter, Little #1! We get into two PJ short story adventures!

In “The Sword of Hades,” the demigod children of the Big Three—Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades—are gathered in the Underworld by Persephone. Percy, Thalia, and Nico use an enchanted flower to follow a thief and retrieve Hades’s newly forged sword. They fight off Keres, Melinoë the goddess of ghosts, and the Titan Iapetus. The trio retrieve the sword, even if the Underworld didn’t get into the Christmas spirit.

On December 18, 2020 in La Repubblica, Riordan published “Un Natale Mezzosangue.” Percy and Nico shadow travel to Florence during the pandemic to find a perfect gift for Annabeth. They find the shop of the last Etruscan god Charu. He gives Percy a magical bracelet in exchange for the answer to a question. Percy’s answer—that Christmas is for everyone, especially in times of difficulty—placates the deity. Nico and Percy head back to New York with a perfect gift!

Titans? Check. Gods? Yep. Cheeseburgers? Only from McHale’s! So grab Riptide, put on your Camp Half-Blood t-shirt, and shadow travel to a Percy Jackson Christmas!

Welcome to episode 102 of Holly Jolly X’masu! In this episode, I talk about Mari Yoshiko’s 1962 album, “Singing Christmas Party.”

I hope you enjoyed “Singing Christmas Party.” I’m playing catch-up after last month so I don’t have much to add here. I did manage to get a record with her version of “Toy Cha Cha Cha,” which I mentioned in the episode, but I haven’t had the time to rip the vinyl so I couldn’t include it as a bonus song in this episode, which I’d hoped to do.

Be sure to join me back here next time for the 2009 album, “Acoustic Xmas” by Coffee Haus. It’s great, light Jazz album. Then join me on the 25th when I talk about A.S.A.P.’s 1993 album, “Merry Christmas Wish.” After last year, I didn’t think I’d be able to find another album to cover for Black History Month, but I was lucky enough to find this one. It’s a great album and one you’re sure to enjoy.

As always, any feedback on this episode would be appreciated. If have any suggestions, or if you’d like to recommend a song or album for a future episode, drop me a line and let me know.

Remember, I’ve added a button to my Ko-fi page. If you’d like to support me one cup of coffee at a time, a donation is only $3. I’ve also opened a Redbubble store. I only have a couple designs up, but keep an eye on it as I’ll be trying to add more. Half of any proceeds or donations received will be donated to support the people of Ukraine, while the rest will be used to purchase new Japanese Christmas music to review for future episodes. You can also find me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. And if you get a chance, leave me a review on iTunes. Thanks!

Title: 100 Episodes of Merry Madness: The Christmas Cousins Hit Episode 100!!!
Christmas Cousins

We’re gonna show you a movie you can’t refuse.  The boys are off to Italia — Bob’s ancestral homeland – for a magnifica celebration of amore, famiglia, and Natale.  And don’t worry, it’s not personal, it’s business.  We review the Italian holiday film Una famiglia perfetta from 2012.  But first, we listen to Bob try to pronounce the Italian words without mistake, so he doesn’t end up sleeping with the fishes. This is a thoughtful comedy that asks the question of what it means to be a family, because, as we know, a man who doesn’t spend time with his family can never be a real man. And don’t ever take sides with anyone against the Family. Ever.

This film also examines the delicate fragility of marriage. While it can be a bit emotional, you act like a man. What is the matter with you?  Is this how you turn out, a Hollywood finocchio that cries like a woman?  While thoroughly enjoyable, this film has equal parts charm and anxiety, and a few comic twists that we don’t want to share. What are you worried about?  If we wanted to tell you, you’d know already.  We go the mattresses and weigh in on the cultural battle of panettone versus pandoro – dishes that taste best when served cold.  We also discuss La Befana, the Christmas witch and enjoy a festive song that is an ode to, of all things, ginger, which the lyrics describe as “the true fulcrum of Christmas, not the crib, not the Baby Jesus, but ginger.” And when we’re done, leave the gun.  Take the cannoli.

Happy Monday, Christmas Fanatics! And Happy February! One month down on our journey to the 2024 Holiday Season!

This past week, life got in the way for all of the elves and they were unable to record! But never fear, for they’ve decided to drop this once Patreon-exclusive episode as a sneak peek at the extra bonus content you can get for as little as $1.00 per month if you subscribe to us there!

This episode was last October’s inaugural episode of a series of Patreon episodes that Julia and Anthony have been doing – a Patreon spinoff show, if you will – “Tis the Ruined Podcast“!

For those who don’t know, “Ruined” is a podcast that Anthony and Julia could have done in another life; it features two friends – Halle Kiefer, who loves horror films, and Alison Lieby, who won’t watch them – who sit down each week to discuss a different scary movie. After Alison watches the trailer for the film they will be covering, Halle walks her through the plot of the film in question, beat-by-beat, and Alison reacts to the movie she’ll never watch as she guesses the twists, deaths, and plot along the way.

It’s a fantastic podcast, and one that both Anthony and Julia are obsessed with! And because they were made for this concept, they decided to borrow it to cover a particularly gruesome horror movie that Anthony adores and Julia will never watch: Damien Leone’s “Terrifier“!

Even if you’ve never seen the film, you’ve probably seen its main antagonist – Art the Clown! So listen as Anthony walks Julia through the horrifying plot and she tries to guess Art’s every move, which characters will survive, and which will succumb to his various methods of torture! Even if you’re not a horror film fan, this is a really fun episode you’ll most definitely want to check out! (Though not with kids in the room! As this was originally recorded for Patreon, there is some coarse language!)

So settle back and enjoy! And make sure to keep your eyes on Patreon all year long as we have tons of bonus episodes planned for the premium subscription! If you’re not currently subscribed, you may want to consider doing so! If not though, never fear! For we’ll be back in your main podcast feeds every Monday with your regular Christmas programming – including next week! Thanks for excusing our lack of a new episode this week, and for putting up with our brief foray into spookiness instead! As always, we appreciate all of the love and support! ❤️🎅🏻🎄🎁 🦌🦉⛄️🔔🚂 🤶🏻 🎀 ❄️

Hello you beautiful people.

It’s a brand new year and the show is back.
First up it’s the quiz and it’s not easy, I scored a pitiful 5 and a half, see how much better you can do.

Then Bob Baker brings us Do You Hear What I Hear and he discusses the great English tradition of “whinging”.

This episode’s version of A Christmas Carol was suggested by listener Rob Davison.  It’s an episode of Chucklevision called A Christmas Chuckle.  It’s a very loose take on the story, but it has its moments.
You can watch it here:

Next up listener Alfred Perales shares how he broke the news to his son that ther is no Santa Claus.

Then Bob Baker starts his brand new segment Spread A Smile Of Joy.  This is a wonderful idea and it’s all about spreading goodwill to those around you.

If you want to get in touch we’d love to hear from you.

What’s up, dudes? Blessed Candlemas to you all! In honor of Season 4 and the end of the Christmas Cycle, let’s listen to Estonian Orthodox composer Arvo Pärt’s tintinnabuli setting of the “Magnificat” from 1989. This is a prime example of holy minimalism. So the melody is mostly done in diatonic stepwise motion, while harmonies arpeggiate a tonic triad. The piece is broken up into solo and tutti sections.

Then I dive into Rad Santa’s mail fannypack to answer some questions.

Finally, we take a step back through season 4 to hear about its top 10 most downloaded episodes. And for kicks, we talk about the top 20 most downloaded episodes ever!
