Tis the Podcast'

What’s up, dudes? Christmas is a time for feasting!  I’ve got Glen Warren from Season’s Eatings here with me to discuss 1989’s The Treasury of Christmas Recipes from Your Favorite Brand Name Companies! What an interesting cookbook from a remarkable era!

The entire project was published by Publications International, Ltd., founded in 1967 by Louis Weber. The company publishes books and educational products in many categories, including virtual reality and other interactive learning experiences, reference, leisure, inspirational, automotive, and sports. The cookbook is divided into 7 sections: 1) Appetizers, Soups & Beverages; 2) Breads & Coffee Cakes; 3) Salads & Side Dishes; 4) Main Dishes; 5) Desserts; 6) Cookies & Candies; and 7) Gifts From The Kitchen.

The recipes are taken from those published by quite a few brand name companies in various magazines. Some of the more notable entries are by Dole, Hershey, Keebler, and Kraft. Quaker Oats and Borden even get in on the action. There are even a few by various associations and boards.

From Cherry Pecan Poundcake to Lemon Broiled Fish, from Ginger Pineapple Mold to Glazed Stuffed Cornish Hens, this book is peak ‘80s food! Many recipes even include adaptations for using a microwave instead of the stove or oven! Oh, the Best Brownies recipe is dynamite!

Cranberry Holiday Ring? Check. Eggnog Pie? Got it. Kahlua Hot Spiced Apple Cider? What in the…? So grab your bread, make some broccoli cheese soup, and bake some artichoke squares to this episode all about the Treasury of Christmas Recipes!

Festive Fans Unite! (send us a message)

G’day Mate!  We’re so stoked.  The Festive Fans are firing the barbie today for holiday tucker — heaps of prawns and snags.  We’re putting on some cozies and thongs (well, Mark’s in a budgie smuggler) to enjoy our visit to Straya.

Beware the mozzies because it’s a summer celebration.  We’ll be going off, skulling a few frothies, getting some Macca’s, and making a visit to the “December Boys” out in the woop woop.  This film is a beauty.  Crikey, it’s a bloody good prezzie.  There’s orphans, a sea captain, a stunt motorcyclist, and some sick Sheilas.  It’s just what you want in your festive film and a real cracker.

We learn how to say “Happy Christmas” like the Aboriginal people: Gaadha Gayaa!  Then after brekkie, we’ll spend the arvo at the beach, waiting for Caroling by Candlelight.  We’ll also enjoy the sounds of “How to Make Gravy”, a local tune steeped in the Yule culture Down Under.  You can truly see, feel, and experience this song by Paul Kelly.  He’s a popular fixture of Melbourne folklore and on its music scene.  Dardy!

This is a true Aussie Chrissie and it’s good on ya!

Seasons Eatings

This holiday dessert is a newer cousin to a traditional English favourite.  Filled with fruit and a little bit of spirits, this cake is a seasonal staple on tables throughout the Caribbean. It has now made its way across the world as people traveled for work and play.  We’re exploring the history and origins of Jamaican Black Cake.

Welcome back, Christmas Cousins, to episode #134!

We’re diving headfirst into the latest Hallmark Christmas in July release, “A Very Vermont Christmas,” and who better to join us than the culinary legend himself, Danny Parinello, the King of Grillin’ (@kingofgrillin_NC2).

This world-renowned expert chef and BBQ master, known for his culinary exploits worldwide, brings a taste of divine cuisine and a personality as vibrant as his flavors.

He’s a rock and roll royalty scion whose food is said to be touched by the hand of God—yes, it’s that good.
In today’s episode, we’re not just serving up movie reviews; we’re grilling Dan on his Hallmark movie experience. Is this his first foray into the sugary world of Hallmark, or is he a seasoned viewer? Did he adore the festive charm, loathe the predictable plot, or feel nothing at all?

And what about our elusive Cousin Seth? Did he even watch the movie, or will he ghost us once again?

Join us for a sizzling review, complete with laughs, tangents, and maybe a few surprises. Grab your spiked eggnog, get comfy, and let’s unwrap “A Very Vermont Christmas” with a side of BBQ wit and wisdom!

Audience Question:

What’s your guilty pleasure Hallmark movie, and why do you love it? Is it the cheesy romance, the over-the-top holiday decor, or something else entirely? Share your favorites, and we might just feature your pick in our next episode!

Happy Monday, Christmas Fanatics! We hope you’re all having a wonderful July as we barrel ever closer to our beloved ‘Ber Months!

To kick off the week, Julia, Thom, and Anthony journey back to Sesame Street – despite the fact that nobody seemed to be able to tell us how to get there! – to cover the 1996 film, “Sesame Street: Elmo Saves Christmas“! Elmo isn’t any of our hosts favorite resident of Sesame Street, but does the fact that he’s the focal point of this story derail this special for them? And can they get through an entire episode featuring the Muppets without their good friend Mike Westfall of “Advent Calendar House” demanding retractions and apologies?! You’ll just have to tune in to find out!

So, settle back, blast that air conditioning, and enjoy this festive treat which is sure to serve as the perfect kickoff to your week! And keep your eyes open this upcoming Thursday, July 25th, for a very special, bonus Christmas in July episode in your feeds!

As always, thanks for your love and support, y’all! ❤️🎅🏻🎄🎁 🦌🦉⛄️🔔🚂 🤶🏻 🎀 ❄️

What’s up, dudes? Duane from Tinsel Tunes is here with me to talk about the 1984 Christmas mega hit “Last Christmas” by Wham! This catchy tune still holds a spot on most terrestrials radio playlists to this day!

Wham! soared onto the charts in ‘84 with several memorable pop songs when George Michael dreamed about having a Christmas hit. One day, while watching football, the melody came to him. Of course, he ran upstairs to his room to record it his idea, and by the end of the night, he had written a killer tune!

Featuring melodic synths and steady drum machines, the final song competed with Band Aid’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” for the UK Christmas #1. The music video boasts cinematic scenery, and tells the story of a jilted love. Of course, it ultimately lost the battle for #1, but Wham! donated the proceeds to famine relief efforts anyway.

Poppy synthesizers? Check. Ugly Christmas jumpers? Got ‘em. Ski resort meet up with your ex and her new boyfriend? Well… so grab your skis, settle in for a cozy Christmas, and jam out to this episode on “Last Christmas!”

Total Christmas

Hello you beautiful people.

It’s another episode with me, your lovely host.
We open the show with a Christmas Not So Classic. It’s called Christmas Isn’t Christmas and it’s from Bon Jovi.  It was only released last year but I hadn’t heard a thing about it.
Have a listen here:

Then Bob Baker is here to look at why us Brits called Bachelor Party a Stag Do, in Do You Hear What I Hear.

Then it’s The Quiz, and don’t panic, we’re back to doing it the good old way.  I scored a measily 6, but it’s not an easy one.

After that Bob returns with Spread A Smile of Joy, and why not literally spread a smile with a bit of humour in your daily interactions.

This episode’s version of A Christmas Carol is The Stingiest Man in Town starring Basil Rathbone and it’s okay I suppose.
You can watch it here:

This episode’s recommendation, thanks to Natalie Bickel, is to write a short story for the Touchpoint Press Christmas Anthology.

Welcome back Christmas Cousins!

We watched and reviewed the 1986 classic, “Santa Bear’s First Christmas”.

And you’re now probably asking the same thing we keep asking ourselves is…why?

Frankly, we are still not sure…

Anyway, on this episode, we try to get to the bottom of why Gerry chose this special, what we loved, disliked about it and did we bail halfway through.

And, of course, what lessons we all learned from it…it’s an ’80s Christmas special after all…there’s always a lesson in there somewhere!

But seriously, why are we reviewing this?!?

Audience Question:

Are you a big Santa Bear fan? Have you seen this? What are your thoughts?
