Happy Monday, Christmas Fanatics!

This week, join Julia, Thom, and Anthony as they cover the 2023 Peacock Original movie, “Genie“, starring Melissa McCarthy. This was a weird one for the elves, and reactions are sort of all over the place. As always, however, it’s a fun conversation which also encompasses talk of how your hosts spent New Year’s Eve, which includes discussions about Green Day, LL Cool J, Jelly Roll, and Rob Schneider’s daughter!

So, settle in, relax, and let us transport you back to Christmas as we make our way through January and the long months ahead that precede the 2024 holiday season! Enjoy, y’all! As always, thanks for your love and support! ❤️🎅🏻🎄🎁 🦌🦉⛄️🔔🚂 🤶🏻 🎀 ❄️

What’s up, dudes? It’s Hanna-Barbera time, so that means I’ve got Jeff Loftin from Lost Christmas with me to talk all about the 1982 special “Yogi Bear’s All-Star Comedy Christmas Caper!” It’s the sequel to “Yogi’s First Christmas,” and it shows! The story behind the production is super heartwarming, though, so this special succeeds nonetheless.

Huckleberry Hound and friends pay Yogi a surprise visit in Jellystone, but the tenacious bear isn’t home. Instead, he and Boo-boo have gone to the city to surprise his friends for Christmas as well! Ah, the hijinks of pre-cell phone days! To escape capture, Yogi becomes a department store Santa and befriends a little girl named Judy. Together they run off to avoid Animal Control. As it turns out, Judy  is the daughter of tycoon J. Wellington Jones, and he’s out for blood! With local authorities hunting them down, Yogi enlists all his HB friends to find Judy’s family. Spoiler alert: Yogi is arrested. Mr. Jones drops all charges when he realizes how absent he’s been in Judy’s life. They all then spend a happy Christmas together!

QuickDraw McGraw? Yep. Snagglepuss? Uh huh. Fourth wall-breaking cameo from Fred Flintstone? Definitely! So grab your Santa suit, scam a picnic basket from an unsuspecting couple, and sing carols in the snow by a rotating fire with this episode on “Yogi Bear’s All-Star Comedy Christmas Caper!”

It’s a new episode, a new year, and an exciting new country for the Festive Fans!  For the start of 2024, we travel to Iceland — a country with dramatic landscapes full of giant glaciers and fiery volcanos.  Such extreme contrasts also underscore the movie Echo.  This intimate film is equally humorous and heart-breaking.  It is a probe of contemporary Iceland at the holidays, with 56 separate scenes highlighting the minutiae, quirks and idiosyncrasies of daily life.  Once you get past expectations of a fluid storyline, Echo has a real-life poignancy with its authentic detail, nuanced emotion, and universal themes.  This movie leaves a lasting impression through its small and quiet moments. Plus, we also explore the magical Yuletide customs of this land, with its dark winter nights lit by the celestial Northern lights.  So get cozy, lick a spoon, put on your new duds, and put aside your book for our love letter to an Icelandic Christmas!

Sounds of Christmas

Welcome back Christmas Cousins!

After a short hiatus where Cousin Chad was on a break and Cousin Seth was circumnavigating the globe on one of his private jets, we are back to answer the big question around of the world…

After we all journeyed along together, starting with the fall and Pumpkin Spice season, through Thanksgiving and the holidays, how was our beloved festive freshman Cousin Seth’s Christmas?

He did everything this fall and holiday season-from tasting everything pumpkin and peppermint related, to interviewing guests who helped guide him down the right path to movie and T reviews, game shows and more but was his actual Christmas Eve and Christmas day a huge success…or did it wilt under the weight of his lofty expectations ?

Tune in to find out!

Also, BIG announcement: SEASON 3 starts right after New Year with a full slate of new episodes planned all winter, spring and summer right up through next fall and holiday so the Christmas Cousins will be here for you all year long!

Thanks to all of you for the continued overwhelming support and enthusiasm.

We are looking forward to an amazing 2024 with all of our Christmas Cousins out there!!!

New Year’s Eve Bonus: How did Cousin Seth celebrate Christmas? And Season 3 Announcement!

Christmas Cousins

What’s up, dudes? Everybody look around, hear the sound. Something special’s gonna come your way when Shawn Robare from Cult Film Club, Crestwood House, and Plastic Rocket Pop and Sean Sotka from the Christmas Podcasts Podcast join me to talk “Kids, Incorporated!” They even had a New Year’s Eve special where they rock in the New Year!

In this Dec 31st clip show, Kids, Incorporated are rehearsing in the garage when Riley breaks the bad news. Apparently, his latest invention exploded and covered The P*lace in ice cream! Everything is ruined, and the New Year’s Eve party must be canceled! Despondent, the kids reprimand him and begin to sulk when Stacy finds their old New Year’s resolutions.

As they comb through each others’ resolutions, they reminisce about particular instances: Ryan trying to fit in, Renee attempting to be a better sister, Gloria getting her tonsils removed, the Kid stealing Gloria’s fame, and Stacy helping a has-been trombone player. The kids realize that their friendship has gotten them through hard times, and apologize to Riley. Luckily, as the plot demanded, Riley found a substitute venue and the party is back on! Oh, and lots of singing ensues!

Clip show flashbacks? Check. Perfectly convenient plot contrivances? Got ‘em. Killer tunes sung while wearing sequins tuxedos? Definitely! So grab your guitar, pick up a microphone, and rock out to this episode on “Kids, Incorporated: Rock in the New Year!”

Happy New Year! To close out 2023 and welcome in 2024, we are going on a sci-fi adventure into the future to cover Futurama!

Despite this episode premiering in March of 1999, does it still give off the New Year’s Eve vibes? Be sure to listen to find out! Also discussed is Matt’s history with the show, as well as Matt Groening explaining what Futurama is all about.

Welcome to episode 100 of Holly Jolly X’masu! In this episode, I talk about the phenomenal 1971 album, “White Christmas,” from the obscure Korean band, Last Chance.

Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe this is my 100th episode. It’s been a lot of work, but I’ve really enjoyed it. I want to thank you all for listening in, and I hope you’ve enjoyed it half as much as I have. I also hope Last Chance’s “Jingle Bells” really knocked your socks off. I can only imagine how awesome it would have been seeing them perform it live.

As I mentioned in the episode, here’s the link to Rare Earth’s 21-minute version of “Get Ready.” Do yourself a favor and listen to it all the way through.

Rare Earth – Get Ready – Full 21 ½ minute version

Join me back here in January as I kick off my fifth year of the podcast. I’ll be back to my normal schedule of two new episodes per month unless something special comes along. Up first, I’ll be talking about a handful of Christmas singles from the 1990s. I have a pretty large collection of CD-singles, so this will be the first of several episodes covering them. Then join me on the 25th as I talk about Mari Yoshiko’s “Singing Christmas Party” from 1962. It’s an album that doesn’t come up for sale often and it was a real struggle to finally get a copy. Both episodes should be a lot of fun, so be sure to listen in.

[]

As always, any feedback on this episode would be appreciated. If have any suggestions, or if you’d like to recommend a song or album for a future episode, drop me a line and let me know.

Remember, I’ve added a button to my Ko-fi page. If you’d like to support me one cup of coffee at a time, a donation is only $3. I’ve also opened a Redbubble store. I only have a couple designs up, but keep an eye on it as I’ll be trying to add more. Half of any proceeds or donations received will be donated to support the people of Ukraine, while the rest will be used to purchase new Japanese Christmas music to review for future episodes. You can also find me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. And if you get a chance, leave me a review on iTunes. Thanks!

Title: The Ghost Of Christmas Music Yet To Come
Sounds of Christmas

What’s up, dudes? Remember the cult classic “Christmas Evil?” Matt McGrath from Nostaljunk joins me to dissect it. It’s a character study of one man’s descent into madness.

Harry is a scarred man. After witnessing Santa caress his mom in an inappropriate manner—not realizing it was his dad in costume—he has a mental break. Years later, the now adult Harry is obsessed with Santa, emotionally detached from his family, and promoted to toy factory manager. He spies on the neighborhood children to see who’s naughty or nice. While at an office Christmas party, a company donation scam finally cracks him, and he dresses up like and mentally becomes Santa. He steals company toys and donates them to a home for handicapped children. Then he murders  his greedy colleagues. Consequently he’s chased by an angry mob, confronts his brother over his childhood trauma, and flees. His van falls off a bridge and

Toy soldier with actual bayonet? Check. Realistic Santa attire? Yep. Toy bag for suffocating wicked coworkers? Definitely! So paint a sleigh on your van and drive into this episode on “Christmas Evil!”
