It’s officially Hallmark Christmas season, and the Countdown to Christmas is back! Cousin Chad is ready to deck the halls, but Cousin Seth?
Cousin Seth? Well, he’s mysteriously “busy” this week. Is he secretly jet-setting across the globe? Maybe swimming laps in his Scrooge McDuck-style vault of gold coins? Villa shopping in Lake Como? We may never know! But fear not, Cousin-Wife Leslie is stepping in, and she’s bringing all the charm, wit, and holiday spirit to help Cousin Chad break down Hallmark’s first three Countdown to Christmas movies! Plus, Christmas aficionado, yes, THE Christmas Aficionado (because who else would we call?) joins the fun to add his yuletide expertise.
This weekend kicks off with three new holiday movies, and we’re breaking them down: Twas the Date Before Christmas, Holiday Crashers, and Scouting for Christmas. Which one will the Cousins decide to fully review?
Spoiler alert: It’s the first one of the season, and we are diving deep into Twas the Date Before Christmas next week!
Plus, we want to hear from YOU! Which of these movies are you most excited for?

Welcome to episode 122 of Holly Jolly X’masu! In this episode, I talk about the 1997 compilation, “Winter Gift Pops.”
I hope you enjoyed “Winter Gift Pops.” It’s a fun album and one I’ve been looking forward to sharing. As hard as I tried to get this episode out before the end of September, life got in the way. To say it’s been crazy is an understatement. Like I’ve said several times over the past few months, I’ll be doing my best to get caught up over the next few weeks.
Be sure to tune in later this month, or possibly early next month, as I talk about a pair of really great vocal Jazz albums from the 2010s. Up first is Mami Horie’s “The Swingin’ Christmas” from 2010. Then join me the following episode for Hiroko Williams’ fantastic 2016 album, “My Room For Christmas.” You’re sure to enjoy them both.
As always, any feedback on this episode would be appreciated. If have any suggestions, or if you’d like to recommend a song or album for a future episode, drop me a line and let me know.
Remember, I’ve added a button to my Ko-fi page. If you’d like to support me one cup of coffee at a time, a donation is only $3. I’ve also opened a Redbubble store. I only have a couple designs up, but keep an eye on it as I’ll be trying to add more. Half of any proceeds or donations received will be donated to support the people of Ukraine, while the rest will be used to purchase new Japanese Christmas music to review for future episodes. You can also find me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. And if you get a chance, leave me a review on iTunes. Thanks!
And don’t forget to order your limited-edition Kringle Krew ornament. All of us at the Christmas Podcast Network wanted to do something special this year, so we came together to offer our listeners the chance to help us spread some holiday cheer. Not only do you get the beautiful ornament pictured below, but 100% of the proceeds go to the Red Sled Santa Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping low-income, at-risk, medically-challenged, and terminally ill children during the holiday season. We have a limited number of these ornaments available, so be sure to order yours now, and help us bring a little love and magic to some children in need. From all of us at the Christmas Podcast Network, thank you for your generosity and support. Together, we can help create unforgettable Christmas memories.
Welcome to the BER months … and also my first episode of the Holiday season 2024! Let’s dive into the history of Canadian and American Thanksgiving and learn about what our friends to do make their Thanksgiving, south of the boarder.
A big thanks to; Mike Westfall from Advent Calendar Podcast and Charlie Ague from Closer To Christmas Podcast for sharing their stories with my listeners.
I look forward to sharing more traditions with you while we countdown the days till Christmas!

What’s up, dudes? There are a lot of classic Halloween commercials! They’ve shaped our perception of the spooky season since we were little. Lyle Perez from The Halloween Podcast joins me live to watch some of the wild and creative ‘80s Halloween commercials!
We begin with Count Chocula recoiling in fear of Count Dracula. The Invisible Man and the Mummy also try to get cheap mufflers at Meineke. Meanwhile, Count Scary attempts to persuade us to pick up some 3D glasses at our local Wendy’s restaurants. His widows peak is out of control!
Ogilvy Mather created two memorable commercials. The first has young lovers accidentally combining peanut butter and chocolate at viewing of a scary movie. The second sees Frankenstein’s wretch combine the two after his resurrection. Then follows Ronald McDonald talking with McNugget buddies in Halloween costumes. Oh, and Vincent Price even hawks Polaroid video cassettes. We also see Elvira plug Coors!
A killer stalks his prey to a John Carpenter synth score clone. As he approaches his victims, he snatches the Coca Cola out of their hands. As it turns out, it’s only a sister in a face mask and curlers! Hideous!
Catchy jingles? Check. Cheesy, eerie messages? Of course. Monster shenanigans? Definitely! So grab your Dipps, head to McDonald’s with their certificates, and enjoy this episode on ’80s Halloween commercials!
Ken Kessler from the Sounds of Christmas checks in with a quick episode to tell you about the upcoming podcast countdown, highlighting the top ten most-listened-to and most-downloaded episodes of the Sounds of Christmas podcast (all leading up to the new season of the Sounds of Christmas station, which starts on November 1)!
This week I’m talking with blues artist Jontavious Willis, who recently released his album West Georgia Blues.
I wanted to talk to Jontavious not because of his Christmas music–he doesn’t have any yet–but because he’s doing something that I’ve been trying to pay attention to as people make contemporary music in traditional forms. We go a little longer with Jontavious talking about the blues in general to help get at that thought a bit.
But we also got to a number of his favorite blues Christmas songs, and I like that he’s not doctrinaire in his choices, folding in Rev. J.M. Gates, The Emotions and James Brown among others. Early on he mentions Minnie Ripperton, and it takes a bit before I get to her, but I played “Christmas Love” by the Rotary Connection, which featured Minnie Ripperton on lead vocals.
In the episode, I also mentioned that I did a guest spot recently on the Totally Rad Christmas podcast, which focuses on Christmas in the ’80s. We talked about “Do They Know it’s Christmas” by Band Aid and Band Aid II from 1989 with a version of the song produced by the British pop hit making team of Stock Aiken Waterman. It’s a fun conversation and worth the time.
Finally, Jontavious mentioned Lowell Folsom’s “Lonesome Christmas,” then rolled on to other songs so I never got to include a song by him. If you haven’t heard it, here it is.
