It’s a very special week on The Christmas Cousins Podcast, as we continue our crossover with our friends from The Christmas-Aficionado for the Hallmark Happy Hour!

Cousin Chad is joined by the always-jolly Joe the Christmas Aficionado, the festive legend Cousin Lee, and a super special guest — Brian from Deck the Hallmark! Together, they’ll unwrap the much-anticipated new holiday movie “Merry Christmas, Ted Cooper” and pair it with the perfect seasonal beer. 🍺🎅

But wait… where’s Cousin Seth? 🤔 Rumors are swirling. Is he home with a mysterious yuletide illness? Nursing a grudge against Brian from Deck the Hallmark? Or simply too jealous of Joe’s perfectly coiffed Christmas hair? We may never know!

Either way, it’s bound to be a holly-jolly good time — with laughter, festive banter, and maybe even a “Seth on the Lam” segment or two. Tune in and celebrate the chaos, Christmas-style! 🎁

What’s up, dudes? They’re a legendary metal band whose songs were played all the time on MTV. Yes, we’re talking Stryper! I’ve got the incredible Michael Sweet with me to talk about their 1984 singles “Reason for the Season” and “Winter Wonderland!” We also dive into their new album The Greatest Gift of All available this year in November.

The boys lay down an eighth note riff in “Reason for the Season,” and modulate for the chorus. The song is full of their dual lead guitar, harmonized in 3rds for texture and interest. After coming to a rocked out climax, it ends with harmonics and acoustic and clean tone electrics. The tight vocal pads give an ethereal feeling contrasting with the previous heavy straightforward rock vibe.

Released in December ‘84, the single had a Stryperized version of the classic “Winter Wonderland” as a B-side. This time the band gave the song a swing eighth-triplet riff. After some introductory dialogue, they launch into it, and segue nicely into a triplet dual lead solo. Uniquely, a turnaround transitions to an Elvis inspired bluesy half time rendition of the chorus.

And now, this year the band has a new Christmas album! Stryper The Greatest Gift of All is full of classics and original tunes. From a lush and calming “Silent Night” to an uptempo “Joy to the World,” it has it all. The album even ends with re-recordings of their two ‘80s singles, updating them sonically and ending with a bang!

Guitar? Check. Soaring vocals? Yep. Full on Stryper vibes? Definitely! So grab your axe, put on your Christmas pajamas, and rock out to this episode on Stryper The Greatest Gift of All!

Festive Fans Unite! (send us a message)

The Festive Fans end their Creepmas in October with a review of the 2021 film “The Advent Calendar” and a salute to Belgium.  We also speak with Sabine Janisela, a diplomat at the Latvian Embassy, who helps us on our Piragi journey, offering both official cultural knowledge along with her own personal experience.

The “Advent Calendar” is a horror film about a mysterious wooden advent calendar that intertwines the coziness of Christmas with a sinister twist. Each door offers to satisfy your deepest wish — at a terrible cost. While the movie may be scary, Belgium is not.  It is only the size of the state of New Jersey, but it is surprisingly diverse with its Flemish, Walloon, and Brussels influences.  Belgium is like living in a fairy tale, with its cobblestone streets, Gothic churches, medieval castles, canals, and beers brewed by monks in ancient abbeys.  Along with the scent of chocolate and waffles in the air, you can’t help but raise a toast to this compact little country.

And speaking of drink, Belgium is a place where its rich beer tradition stretches back nearly a thousand years.  They brew more than 1,500 distinctly different beers.  Belgians have a deep cultural appreciation and reverence for beer, and the Festive Fans may have just died and gone to heaven, especially since this is also the birthplace of Christmas beers.  In Belgium, beer is an art form, and the Christmas beers—also known as “bières de Noël” or “kerstbier”—are their masterpieces. Traditionally brewed for the holiday season, these beers are stronger, richer, and more complex, just like us!

They often have higher alcohol content and seasonal spices—like clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, and orange peel—to evoke the warmth needed for a winter’s night. The aroma alone recalls festive meals shared with family.  These rich, spiced brews embody the Belgian soul—rooted in history and brimming with craftsmanship. Why don’t you crack one open now, gather by the fire, and join us as we get a little spooky in our crossover celebration of Christmas with a little Halloween appreciation.

It’s Halloween Week on A Cozy Christmas Podcast, and I’m celebrating by reading another spooky but cozy Victorian Christmas tale. This week, I’m reading “A Strange Christmas Game” by Charlotte Riddell — A brother and sister inherit an old, possibly haunted house whose previous owner met a mysterious end. After several nights of strange noises echoing through the halls, they decide to stay up on Christmas Eve to uncover the truth — and what they discover is most definitely not Santa Claus…

Riddell wrote a perfect blend of cozy fireside storytelling and eerie suspense — the kind of story that will make you want to keep the lights on, but still smile at the warmth of a good old-fashioned ghostly yarn.

So grab a blanket, light a candle, and join me as we celebrate the spooky season, Victorian style! 👻🎄

“A Strange Christmas Game” by Charlotte Riddell | More Christmas Stories for Halloween

A Cozy Christmas'

What’s up, dudes? It’s the most low budget Christmas slasher  ever, and I’ve got Jeff and Jay from Horror for the Holidays with me to talk about it! Yes, we’re diving into 1983’s “Blood Beat!”

Cathy sees visions. She paints what sees in a cabin in rural Wisconsin with her boyfriend Gary. When her son Ted brings his new girlfriend Sarah home for Christmas, strange things begin to happen. Of course, Cathy tells her son she’s seen Sarah before in her psychic visions.

Meanwhile, a glowing blue samurai ghost begins attacking and killing people. The victims include the neighbors, Uncle Pete, and a couple of hunters camping in the woods. It turns out that Sarah is the reincarnation of Cathy’s sister and an old samurai warrior… or something like that. As Sarah becomes the ghost, Ted and his sister Dolly develop their own latent psychic powers to battle the blade-wielding specter!

Was there a script? Kinda. Were there actors? Not really. Were there drugs? Definitely! So don your samurai armor, play monopoly with your sibling, and listen to this episode on “Blood Beat!”

Merry Little Podcast of MyMerryChristmas.com

Thanksgiving and Christmas are the topic of discussion on The Christmas Show of My Merry Christmas. In this segment we explore the Thanksgiving anthem that has become a favored song of Thanksgiving, Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, which we feature in this episode.

The great and beautiful rendition we share comes from Broken Bow Music.

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing is a 300-year old song, familiar in the ancient Christian world. The hymn has an amazing backstory that we tell in this episode. Here are the lyrics to this song of Thanksgiving;

1Come, Thou Fount of ev’ry blessing;
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace.
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.

Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount; I’m fixed upon it:
Mount of Thy redeeming love.

Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Hither by Thy help I’m come.
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.

Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wand’ring from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood.

Oh, to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wand’ring heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love.
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it;
Seal it for Thy courts above.
