It’s Christmas week, and I have several episodes planned for the week. Today’s episode begins with a listener’s memory – Mika Jeane wrote a beautiful new Christmas song and I loved it so much I wanted to play it on the podcast for all of you. Thank you Mika for letting me share this with my other listeners! The song is called Light Up, and you can also hear it on Mika’s youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q58XM5etc5k&ab_channel=MikaJeane

Then guest and new friend of the show Sarah Joy Kane stops by to have a fun Christmas chat with me. She’s a singer and stage actor from NYC who’s husband has recently joined the military.

We talk about their transition from performing on stage to military life, we talk about our faith and how creativity connects us to God. After that the fun really kicks in, and we play a spirited game of “Would You Rather – Christmas Edition” and then finish up talking about more of our favorite Christmas things, including Christmas Eve family traditions. Linked below are Sarah’s social media accounts and you will definitely want to follow her there. She spreads kindness and good cheer 365 days a year!

Seasons Eatings

In many of the great Christmas songs there are many references to food.  Who can’t remember singing about chestnuts roasting on a open fire, or traveling to enjoy some pumpkin pie?  But this time I want to travel back to a time when people gathered in great halls and made merry during the twelve days of Christmas. This dish is still found on Christmas tables throughout Sweden.  We’re exploring the history and origins of the boar’s head.

Season's Eatings

Merry Christmas Week! It is crazy to think this is our last Christmas episode of the year. This week we are covering ‘Jolly Old St. Dick’ from the second season of Third Rock from the Sun.

This episode has A LOT going for it in a very short period of time. Matt waxes poetic over John Lithgow’s masterful performance, he once again expounds on his love of Christmas blow mold decorations and, as always, determines whether or not this episode should be deemed a holiday classic.

Sounds of Christmas

Ken Kessler from the Sounds of Christmas talks to singer/songwriter Rehya Stevens about her passion for songwriting, and her Christmas albums “Celebrate” and “Tis The Season” (the latter of which is her latest). They also talked about her process and inspiration for her music, her Halloween song and some of the non-Christmas music that is on the way in 2022 (along with the possibility of more Christmas music, too)!

Melissa is back to talk Christmas at Castle Hart!  This film includes an all-star cast that includes Lacey Chabert, Stuart Townsend, and the amazingly talented Ali Hardiman.  In my humble opinion, this is the best of the movies so far, and that isn’t just my Irish roots talking.  My only regret is that we couldn’t secure sponsorship from Kerrygold.

Merry Little Podcast of MyMerryChristmas.com

The Baby of Bethlehem is the topic of this very personal episode of the Merry Little Podcast.

We sing of Him in song and celebrate the Nativity as a part of every Christmas – but why?

Based on this sincere question from a listener we discuss the tender mercies of Christmas and the effect it has on the living and the dead.

How does one without faith makes sense of it all? Our listener celebrates the season year round, enjoys great traditions of family and joy, and yet cannot connect the merriment to the manger. He wants to understand without the preachy demands of church.

So we explore why The Baby is Christmas in simple, fundamental terms of truth.

We find that in these hard times The Baby is more relevant and important than ever.

What fascinates the most is that they knew He was coming. His birth was anticipated like no other and that theme of anticipation has carried over to our modern celebrations of Christmas thousands of years later.

But how can we celebrate Him in the shadow of Santa, Christmas trees, snowmen and stockings? We find that it is okay, that each of the elements of Christmas we cherish, even those of a secular nature, can add to the light of Christmas.

This episode features more new music from The Barefoot Movement with a great song titled I Just Wish It Would Snow. Please visit their YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBuoyYzXlguK3jkYjdiA7cQ for more great music.

Also featured is another great Christmas song from Angie Killian and Shawna Edwards. Their work – performed by children – teaches the beauty of the story of The Baby and we’re grateful for it.

This episode also features recent work by Santa’s Sleigh, a merry little outreach effort of the Merry Forums of MyMerryChristmas.com to give back each Christmas. This true story illustrates how the simple principle of anonymous giving elevates the many who focus on the one or the few.

Tis the Podcast

Happy Monday, Christmas Fanatics! Can you believe this is already our final official episode before Christmas day 2021 itself? How crazy is that?

This week, join Julia, Thom, and Anthony travel back to the world of Rankin/Bass to discuss the 1974, traditionally animated television special, “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas“! How does it stack up to all of the past Rankin/Bass specials they’ve covered? Is Santa as big a jerk in this one as he is in many of the previous ones? All of this, and much more, will be revealed in this episode so you’ll just have to listen to find out! So settle back with your favorite drink beside your Christmas tree and enjoy! And please accept our apologies in advance regarding the audio in this specific episode – there were microphone problems and echo problems throughout the recording. We tried to fix as much of it as we could during the editing process, but it’s not anywhere near the sound quality we’d like it to be.

And if you want even more “Tis the Podcast“ content this week, make sure to check your podcast feeds this upcoming Thursday, December 23rd – Christmas Eve Eve; Tibb’s Eve; Festivus; The Day Before the Night Before Christmas; Christmas Adam; pick your poison! –  for the final installment of “Another Christmas Story“: the Epilogue, entitled “Christmas All Over Again”, which our very own, Julia Colburn, will be reading to y’all!

As always, thanks for your love and support, y’all! 🎅🏻🎄🎁 🦌🦉⛄️🚂🔔 🤶🏻 🎀 ❄️

Total Christmas

It’s Christmas you beautiful people.
Let’s celebrate by listening to some imbecile shouting into a microphone.

First up Julie Sibilla shares the worst Christmas present that her nan gave to her mum and brother.

This episode’s Yule Log is the Arendelle Castle Yule Log from Frozen, and it’s on Disney plus.  If you haven’t got Disney plus, don’t worry, it’s a pretty naff yule log.

Then Ed Daley, author of The Christmas Book, tells us a bit of the background to the David Bowie and Bing Crosby classic, the Little Drummer Boy.
To find our more about other Christmas Classic Songs, check out his book:

Then we take another look at the Top Ten Christmas Movie Lists that listeners have sent in and my own personal opinion is out the window.  Who will have the most popular list as calculate from all the other lists?

We have another fantastic song from Adam Kennedy and his Creative Commonaires, this one is called Bumbles Don’t Bounce, and if you’re a fan of the Rankin Bass Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, I think you’ll get a kick out of this one.
https://adamkennedy.bandcamp.com

This episode’s version of a Christmas Carol is from 1949 and has Vincent Price narrating it.  It’s pretty low budget and I have very little good to say about it.
Here’s a link:

Then it’s Robin Sings and the girls sing Jingle Bells.  They’ve sung it before, but they’re older now and more refined.

Then Kevin Church shares a Christmas memory of going to listen to his family play in a brass band each Christmas.

This episode’s recommendation is Darley Dance Christmas Show.  They’ve recorded an online version of their Christmas spectacular with songs, dancing and comedy all with a real festive feel.  It’s a great way to help the arts and enjoy a Christmas show.
