Christmas Countdown Show 2022

The Christmas Countdown offseason finale is HERE, and the most wonderful time of the year is almost upon us!

Eric, Danny, and Producer Chris are back with a fantastically festive episode packed with Christmas news, holiday traditions, and plenty of merry mayhem!

The fellas unwrap the latest holiday headlines, including Andy Richter’s new Elf Unwrapped book, a new Dean Martin Christmas album, the Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas 2026 schedule, and the teaser for The Families Stone.

Then it’s time for a few final offseason spins of the Winter Wheel of Wondermint! This episode’s festive rabbit holes include the economics of Santa’s North Pole operation and creative ways to celebrate your first Christmas in a new home.

PLUS! Special guest Dana Alyss joins the show to share her mission to save the beloved Christmas Barn in Bethlehem, PA, and the guys catch up on life while getting delightfully lost in their usual holiday (and non-holiday) banter.

The offseason is ending, Christmas 2026 is getting closer, and we’re ready to make spirits bright!

Tis the Podcast

Happy Monday, Christmas Fanatics!

This week, as Spooky Season continues, Matt Spaulding of “North Pole Radio” and “2 Broke Geeks” joins Julia, Anthony, and Thom to discuss the 2023 slasher film, “Scream VI” – a.k.a. “Ghostface Takes Manhattan!”

Everyone knows Anthony is the “Scream” fan on this show, so how does this one stack up against the rest of the franchise in his mind? And is Ghostface’s murder spree in New York more or less successful than Jason’s was in the “Friday the 13th” franchise? You’ll just have to tune in to find out!

So settle back with your pumpkin spice lattes, relax, and enjoy! And, as always, thanks for your love and support, y’all! ❤️🍂🎃🎅🏻🎄🎁 🦌🦉⛄️🚂🔔 🤶🏻 🎀 ❄️

Total Christmas

Merry Christmas you beautiful people!

Listener Aron C sent in a message about his favourite Christmas decoration; Sparkle the Christmas Light, so I tell you a bit about it.

Next up it’s Where Are You Christmas? and Bob Baker looks at a few places in Japan that celebrate Christmas all year round.

Then it’s this episodes version of A Christmas Carol. This one is called Hook’s Christmas and it’s an episode of Peter Pan and the Pirates. It’s not great but it does take a few quotes from the original novel.

You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgSlyyROpXc

Then Bob returns with Do You Hear What I Hear? and he’s talking about ‘fixtures’.

Next is The Christmas Quiz, I only managed 6, it seems all my guesses went the wrong way. Make sure to email me your score.

What’s up, dudes? I’m dreaming of a white Christmas… and also punk Christmas, pizza-place Christmas, power-metal Christmas, and New Kids on the Block Christmas! Today we’re diving into the ’80s versions of Irving Berlin’s classic “White Christmas!”

Before the neon snowstorm hits, a quick rewind: Berlin wrote it around 1940, Bing Crosby introduced it on radio at Christmas 1941, then recorded it May 29, 1942 for Holiday Inn. Wartime America lost its mind for that wistful fireplace fantasy — 11 weeks at No. 1, an Oscar for Best Original Song, the 1954 movie, a 1947 re-record that became the one everybody knows, and roughly 50 million copies as the best-selling physical single ever. So of course the ’80s had to get weird with it. Country legends, pop stars, punks, metalheads, jazz cats, claymation raisins, and yes — animatronic ShowBiz Pizza bears — all took a crack at dreaming of a white one.

Punked-up Yobs? Check. Animatronic Rock-afire Explosion? Got it. Helloween sneaking holiday chaos onto a metal EP? Absolutely radical! So dust off the vinyl, cue up the cassette (or that shiny new CD), and dream along with this episode on “’80s Versions of White Christmas!”

Festive Fans Unite! (send us a message)

This is not your father’s typical Festive Fans show. We’re trading our usual sentimental exploration of Christmas nostalgia for something more rugged, more physical, and a lot more harrowing. While we typically are on a pleasant exploration searching for festive holiday cheer, this one is more like a challenging expedition. So, lace up your hiking boots and come join us. We’re heading for Kyrgyzstan, a mountainous country where the scenery is breathtaking, the roads are nerve-racking, and this podcast is reaching new heights.  It is a country of enormous mountains. The Tian Shan range dominates the entire landscape with its long, snow-capped ridges.

We also grapple with a difficult question. Can we find Christmas in Kyrgyzstan, even though the country is predominantly Muslim?  The irony is you will find big, decorated trees, holiday gifts and outdoor markets here — they even have Ayaz Ata or “Father Frost” — but they are all part of the New Year’s celebration, rather than Christmas. The big public events are on January 1, while Orthodox Christmas arrives on January 7. There is a small Christian community, but they celebrate mostly with church services, carols, and quiet family events.

While we came looking for holiday cheer in this Central Asian nation, we instead watched Dicing with Death: The Father Christmas of Kyrgyzstan. This documentary made a sharp turn into the mountains and gave us a new way to consider our Kyrgyzstan visit. We have seen Christmas movies in which Santa has to navigate a blizzard, but not ordinary locals in an old Russian truck. The “Father Christmas” of the title has no sleigh or flying reindeer. Instead of a large jolly man with a sack full of presents, we watch two men journey along treacherous mountain roads to deliver clementines to children in remote villages for their only holiday treat. The children look forward to these rare fruits all year. This documentary lets us admire the breathtaking landscape, while also appreciating it’s brutal conditions. In Kyrgyzstan, even bringing joy to children can require a dangerous trek worthy of an epic.

This is a country where a short trip involves crossing an icy mountain pass. And if you happen to think that a clementine is an underwhelming Christmas present, watch how far they travel and the risks they take to make this delivery. After such a hazardous journey, these clementines look more precious than anything we put under our Christmas trees. Especially when you consider that these are real people featured in this film, who go to extraordinary lengths just to brighten the lives of children who are strangers.

We set out this episode to scale the mountains in search of a holiday story, but we may have reached the peak with these ambitious residents delivering their special fruit. Somewhere between the New Year decorations, the old-world customs and traditions, and the battered old truck inching through the bitter cold, we found what we had come looking for.  The Spirit of Christmas is alive in Kyrgyzstan.

Seasons Eatings

A tiny, golden-brown biscuit, showered with poppy seeds. It has witnessed the birth of nations and their erasure from maps. It has been baked in secret under occupation, and tucked into suitcases by people fleeing everything they knew. And on the twenty-fourth of December, it will be passed around a table set for twelve dishes, beneath a cloth hiding a handful of hay. We’re diving into the history and origins of kūčiukai.

Celebrating 20 years of working toegether. After meeting in 2006 these festive besties are proud of their 20 year friendship that has seen them work at 4 different radio stations together and host nearly 300 Christmas Podcasts over nearly an entire decade. In todays very self indulgent special podcast we look back on how it all began and how the early years really shaped the festive experts they have become. We remember those too much information moments that really meant there was no turning back for these two, plus 2 decades of over the top big adventures that if they weren’t there you wouldn’t believe could actually happen to two friends along an incredible journey. So indulge us if you will, as we fondly look back on 20 years of a super strong, fun and festive friendship which has landed them here today. And the episode ends with a much-needed update on the cast of the ’80s sitcom, “Small Wonder,” because why not. Of course, Joe @christmasaficionado knew everything about this show…
