Title: Top 10 Songs About Santa Claus | Part 1
Christmas Countdown'

The earliest myths involving elves portrayed them as mischievous or even malicious creatures that posed dangers to humans and animals. So, how do we get from there to jolly little Christmas elves? It’s a story that takes us from ancient Ancient Europe to the current day — one that involves mythology, modern American influence, the power of poetry and literature, possibly the rise of industrialization, and definitely…sticking it to the Nazis.

Happy Monday, Christmas fanatics! And happy last week of November!! Can you believe how fast the holiday season is flying? We sure can’t!

With Thom away visiting family for Thanksgiving, it’s just Julia and Anthony this week, and they gather to talk the brand-new, extraordinarily festive Apple TV holiday special, “Hannah Waddingham: Home For Christmas“!

We won’t play coy – both Julia and Anthony adored this incredible special, which gave them all of the Christmas feels, and they spend an hour gushing over the amazing Hannah Waddingham, the cast of “Ted Lasso“, all of the other featured celebrity guests, and the song arrangements sung over the course of this quick forty-five-minute variety special.

Also discussed: both Julia’s and Anthony’s Thanksgivings’ thoughts on all of the “Scream 7” controversy; Anthony’s thoughts on his 2023 Thanksgiving watchlist as well as his thoughts on new movies he’s seen this past week, including: “Thanksgiving“, “The Holdovers“, “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes“, and “Napoleon“; and much, much more!

This is one cheerful, festive, and fun episode you want to be sure not to miss! It’s the perfect antidote to those Monday blues and will inject a healthy dose of Christmas feels into your week! So, settle in with your favorite holiday drink and enjoy! As always, thanks for your love and support, y’all! ❤️🎅🏻🎄🎁 🦌🦉⛄️🔔🚂 🤶🏻 🎀 ❄️

What’s up, dudes? It’s the A-Team: four Vietnam vets, framed for a crime they didn’t commit who help the innocent while on the run from the military. I’ve got Laramy Wells from Moving Panels and Joe Fulton the Christmas Aficionado with me to talk all about the Thanksgiving episode “Family Reunion!”

On Thanksgiving, General Stockwell orders the A-Team to reunite a wanted criminal, A.J. Bancroft, with his daughter Ellen within 24 hours. In return, Bancroft will provide evidence that could bring down half the crooked politicians in Washington. Bancroft, who is terminally ill, has not seen his daughter in twenty years. However, Ellen knows all about his misdeeds from reading the papers. The old man has another reason to hire the A-Team specifically: he tells Murdock that Templeton Peck was born Richard Bancroft, his son. Bancroft’s former associates in crime don’t want their involvement to go public, so they send goons after Bancroft and his daughter. Can the A-Team intercept them and reunite the estranged family? Of course! That’s why they’re the A-Team! Unfortunately, not before Bancroft dies and misses the chance to tell Face that he’s his dad as well. Family, right?!

Explosions? Check. Tricking out the van? Got it. Family drama and character study? Definitely more than usual for this show! So grab your journal full of secrets, explode some fire extinguishers, and race into this Thanksgiving episode of the A-Team!

In today’s episode we explore how true Americans celebrate Christmas – the Native Americans.  Yes, we make a visit to the American Indian nation, as a Thanksgiving Day salute to the indigenous people who saved the Pilgrim butts and got a big thank you dinner and European delicacies like smallpox and kidnapping. When we first learned to say Merry Christmas in the language of the Mi’Kmaw tribe during our Quebec episode, we wondered aloud if there was a Christmas movie featuring native people and we found a delightful one.  We thought it appropriate for this weekend to kick off the holiday season with a lighthearted romp at a Utah ski resort, that includes all of your favorite rom-com tropes:  convenient coincidences, obvious misunderstandings, and a beautiful snow-filled festive setting.  Sit back, turn off Yellowstone, and enjoy a cheery movie filled native people and without the stereotypical portrayal of casinos and substance abuse.   Merry Christmas!

Welcome to episode 95 of Holly Jolly X’masu! In this episode, I talk about Shoji Suzuki’s 1961 album, “Swingin’ Christmas.”

I truly hope you enjoyed this episode. This is one of my favorite albums and played a huge part in my collecting journey. I’d love to say it’s the best album in my collection, but I actually have several others that blow it away. I’ll be covering one of those on Christmas Day.

I mentioned Shoji Suzuki’s biggest hit, “Suzukake No Michi,” and I wanted to share a video of it with you. This is from 1987 and features the Rhythm Aces lineup that appeared on this album—Shoji Suzuki on clarinet, Toshio Suzuki on piano, Jimmy Takeuchi on drums, Ryusei Matsuzaki on vibraphone, and Yoichi Kobayashi on bass. I loved finding this and being able to see the entire band performing.

Shoji Suzuki and his Rhythm Aces – Suzukake no Michi – 1987

As hard as it is to believe, December is just around the corner, which means I’ll have a new episode each week. Throughout the month, I’ll be covering some of the best and most interesting albums in my collection. I’ll start off with the Meiji Gakuin University Glee Club’s 10th anniversary performance of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. After that, I’ll cover a really groovy late 60s album, “Christmas Song/New Year’s Song.” Then tune in for Kayo Ishu’s outstanding vocal jazz album, “Scat Christmas.” I’ll close out the year with a pair of extremely rare albums from the early 70s that have to be heard to be believed.

As always, any feedback on this episode would be appreciated. If have any suggestions, or if you’d like to recommend a song or album for a future episode, drop me a line and let me know.

Remember, I’ve added a button to my Ko-fi page. If you’d like to support me one cup of coffee at a time, a donation is only $3. I’ve also opened a Redbubble store. I only have a couple designs up, but keep an eye on it as I’ll be trying to add more. Half of any proceeds or donations received will be donated to support the people of Ukraine, while the rest will be used to purchase new Japanese Christmas music to review for future episodes. You can also find me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. And if you get a chance, leave me a review on iTunes. Thanks!
