Chrismas Morning

Welcome back, Christmas Cousins! After our brief summer hiatus, we’re thrilled to be back (Cousin Chad is ecstatic, while Cousin Seth insists a proper hiatus should involve months in the Alps or French Riviera, but I digress). This episode is your perfect cure for summertime blues and a cool treat amidst this sweltering heat.

Join us as we update you on how the Christmas Cousins spent their hiatus and how our summer adventures have been going. We’ll also read some listener reviews and feedback, giving a shout-out to our amazing community. Of course, we’ll get the highly anticipated update on Seth’s love life, which promises to be as intriguing as ever.

Plus, we’ll discuss our upcoming shows and plans for the rest of the summer as we gear up for the fall and holiday season. So grab your iced cocoa, settle in, and let’s beat the heat together with some festive cheer!

How did you spend your summer, and what festive plans do you have as we transition into the holiday season? Share your stories and plans with us, and we might feature them in an upcoming episode!

🎄 It’s 1981, and a jolly swagman who may or may not also be Santa Claus is flying me around the world in a sleigh built out of a bench and some rope we had lying around to search the globe for a lost baby kangaroo.

Today’s Christmas in July episode begins where it’s actually winter in July, and only gets stranger and more inappropriate from there. It’s “Around the World with Dot,” also known as “Dot and Santa Claus,” starring the title character from an 1899 Australian children’s book, “Dot and the Kangaroo.”

We are back with another installment of “Tis the Podcast”, and this week, we are covering John Woo’s 2023, action-holiday film, “Silent Night”! Well, the elves have thoughts on all of this, but you’ll just have to tune in to find out!

This is a fun, festive episode which is the perfect way to kick off your week! And get excited: now that we’re past the Fourth of July, stores will be in full ‘Ber-Months mode soon enough!

What’s up, dudes? John Candy was a treasure! In fact, we were privileged to have him not only for SCTV and numerous comedy films, but also for his animated Saturday morning cartoon. I’ve got Robert Nicholas from Behind the Bells here with me to talk all about the “Christmas in July” episode of Camp Candy!

John is teaching the kids how to return a serve, when it reminds him of a basketball game between Alex and Rick. When Rick talks about getting new basketball sneakers for Christmas, they decide to turn Camp Candy into a winter wonderland and celebrate Christmas in July. They trim the tree, sing Christmas carols, and freeze the swimming pool with the A/C unit. To complete the look, Rick took Vanessa’s hair mousse to frost the windows. Unfortunately, Vanessa acts like a real witch, goblin (get it?) up her chocolates and refusing to share.

Aftwr falling fast asleep, she dreams that she’s Princess Vanessa, being waited on by the counselors and campers. The Spirit of Last Month visits her and takes her to watch big canoe race to remind her of her friends. The Spirits of This Month show her Camp Candy in disarray. The campers are miserable because of her less than regal attitude. Finally, the Spirit of Next Month shows her the  deserted, barren camp. The lake is polluted, Vanessa is completely alone in a hovel, and Rex DeForest III appears to bulldoze her house and evict her.

Vanessa wakes up and hugs everyone. She offers the last 2 chocolates to Rick and the campers. They all sing “Deck the Hall” by campfire under the Christmas tree, and Nurse Molly kisses John under the mistletoe.

Canoe races? Check. Obligatory “A Christmas Carol” episode? Yep. Talking chocolates hallucinations? Definitely! So grab your tennis racket, paint your windows with mousse, and canoe into this episode!

Merry Christmas you beautiful people.

It’s a packed show and we start off with with our exciting new quiz Santa Banter.  I describe a situation and you have to work out the rhyme.  I bought it at the car boot sale and I’m testing it on you lucky people…  probably only this once.

Next up is Bob Baker with Do You Hear What I Hear and he’s look at ‘pants’.  Bob’s done the research and it’s pretty darn interesting.

Then we take a look at Cozy Little Christmas by Katy Perry. It was a question in last week’s quiz, and I thought I’d never heard of it, turns out I had and it’s not as obscure as I thought.  Plus the video is fun.
Have a watch here:

After that it’s this episode’s version of A Christmas Carol and it is not very good at all.  It’s called “Mrs Scrooge, A Christmas Poem” by Carol Ann Duffy, and it’s a modern take on the legend telling us what happened to Scrooge’s widow.
I read it so you don’t have to.

Then Bob is back with Spread A Smile Of Joy and it was suggested by yours truly.  Why not tidy up your local area with a bit of litter picking, you’ll feel great and your neighbours will be pleased as well.
Check out Bob’s pod here:

Last week we looked at the history of Christmas trees, this week we’re looking at the history of one particular tree, perhaps the world’s most famous Christmas tree, the one at the Rockefeller centre.

Festive Fans Unite! (send us a message)

So it’s Season 2.  We are older and wiser.  Or, with all the traditional food and drink from last season, maybe just older and wider.  We have a much broader view now and we are keeping our chins up … all of them.  To kick off the season, we didn’t want to rush into it with something simple or easy.  No Disney here.  We travel to Slovakia, the twin sister to the Czech Republic, which we covered in Episode 8.  The story in “Let There Be Light” is complicated, messy and layered, which the same is true of us Festive Fans.  And we have more layers now!  What a way to start!

This film leaves us so intrigued with the mystery of Slovokia.  It was difficult to find any details about the actors, the music, and the country.  While still young, this independent upstart is entering its thirties, but still having growing pains, which only leaves us more curious to visit.  Plus, we want to try some of that hot and sweet cabbage soup  Bob is a bit unsatified with the end of the movie, so we just distract him with this episode’s song.  You put this holiday burner on and you’ll forget all about the movie.  As we like to say in Season 2, “Are you 4Fing kidding me?”

Happy Thursday, Christmas Fanatics! And Happy Fourth of July to all of our American listeners!

Since we didn’t get a chance to record a bonus Independence Day episode this year, we’re releasing another episode that was originally intended to drop on Patreon instead! (Hence the explicit tag for language!) Think of it as a second “Summerween” treat, for Anthony is once again joined by his friend, Cookie, to continue their journey on the “Road to ‘MaXXXine‘”. This time, they’re sitting down to discuss the Ti West/A24 2022 film, “Pearl” which serves as the “X-traordinary origin story” to “X“!

Listen as they dive deep into the plot of this character study that just happens to contain horror elements, explore its relatable themes, laugh a lot over some pretty uncomfortable moments, and much, much more!

This is a really fun one, so give it a listen and stay tuned – for Anthony and Cookie have one final episode coming quite soon as well: a discussion about the brand new, just-releasing-this-weekend, “MaXXXine“, the final installment of this unique horror trilogy!

As always, thanks for your love and support, y’all! And keep an eye on your podcast feeds Monday morning for your regularly scheduled Christmas programming where Anthony, Julia, and Thom will be reviewing 2023’s “Silent Night“! ❤️🎅🏻🎄🎁 🦌🦉⛄️🔔🚂 🤶🏻 🎀 ❄️

It’s the 4th of July on this podcast, which means we’re roughly halfway to Christmas! So what better way to celebrate than with the most 4th of July movie of them all: Jaws!

You know Jaws. It’s the granddaddy of all killer shark movies. It’s Steven Spielberg’s first breakout hit. It’s the movie that made summer the season of blockbuster movies. And more than just being historically important, Jaws is just an all-around damn good movie.

Crack open a cold Narragansett and join us as we break down everything that makes this movie tick, why it’s still revered as a classic, and whether or not news of an exploding whale influenced the film’s ending!
