What’s up, dudes? I’ve got Darcy Marta, star of “A Mouse, a Mystery and Me” here with me to tell me about her experience with this cute Christmas special! Not only was she fun to talk to, but she also answered quite a few questions I had with the special! Was it conceived as a lead-in to a series? Was it always just a half hour special? What was it like on set? Yes, she filled me in on all of it! A consummate professional, Darcy, who’s also super kind and sweet, really fielded my relentless questions with ease! So grab your mouse co-author, shove him in your purse or backpack, and go investigate this episode! Also, be sure to check out Darcy’s Frame of Mind Hypnotherapy to help with anxiety, fear, or anything else you need to feel better and succeed!

It’s December, so it’s Christmas and we start the show with this episode’s version of A Christmas Carol. It’s one I saw at The Theatre Royal Winchester. It’s an old time radio stage performance and it started past Dr Who Colin Baker.
Then it’s Do You Hear What I Hear and Bob Baker is talking about the word ‘Publican’.
A couple of episodes ago we had Mary Polte on the show, well this episode she shares the story of how she found out the truth about Santa Claus.
Then it’s The Christmas Sarnie Smackdown, Jeanie Mulligan, from Ireland, comes on to talk about where to be the best festive sandwiches.
Then Bob is Back with Where Are You Christmas, and this time it’s in Frankenmuth, Michigan.
Check out Bob’s podcast here: https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/
Then it’s The Christmas Quiz and you can compare your answers with our US correspondent, Scott Newman.

Title: December Events

We’re in December now, and this week we have three conversations. William Shatner’s face is on the pop culture Mt. Rushmore, and when I had a chance to interview him for The New Orleans Advocate in advance at his appearance at Pop Expo in town, I couldn’t pass up the chance to ask him about 2018’s Shatner Claus. It’s a short interview, but I have it so you get to hear it.
The interview begins with us talking about You Can Call Me Bill, a documentary from 2023 about his life and career. The story I wrote for the Advocate deals with the way that his career has opened up opportunities for him late in life.
The episode also features a new song, “I am Falling Snow,” from Sara Noelle. In 2023, Sara was a guest on 12 Songs to talk about her body of Christmas music.
Jazz vocalist Jane Monheit has become well known for Christmas music with two Christmas albums and a yearly holiday season tour that will bring her to New Orleans on Sunday night.
This conversation is an edited version of a longer conversation that we’ll run in its entirety next season
Finally, singer Kelly Finnigan has a new Christmas single. Earlier this season, I talked to Shawn Lee about recording “Say It Again” with soul singer Kelly Finnigan.
I first talked to Finnigan in 2020 when he released A Joyful Sound, which I consider to be a modern Christmas music classic. It sounds like a lost R&B record from the late 1960s or early 1970s with psychedelic and moody touches. We talk more about that album five years later and his new Christmas single, “I Can’t Wait (for Christmas Time).”
Finally, we revisit the new A Strange Daisy Christmas, a collection of Christmas songs by members of the New Orleans indie rock community. A week or so ago I featured Loucey’s “Christmas (bAbYpLeAze CoMeHoMe), and this week’s show ends with The Self-Help Tapes’ version of Christmas Treat.” The song started as a late-in-the-show Saturday Night Live sketch that The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas remade as a rock ‘n’ roll Christmas standard.

What’s up, dudes? It’s the greatest store ever to an ‘80s kid! Yes, it’s Toys “R” Us, the category killer! Today we’re talking the Toys “R” Us Christmas Dream Book 1985!
Toys “R” Us goes all the way back to 1948, when Charles Lazarus opened a little Washington, D.C. shop called Children’s Bargain Town, selling baby furniture. Eventually he pivoted from cribs and strollers to playthings. In 1957, Lazarus opened the first store under the Toys “R” Us name, built like a supermarket for toys—long aisles, stacked shelves, self-service shopping, and wall-to-wall kids’ stuff.
This book provides a huge variety of toys. From ThunderCats to Cabbage Patch Kids, there’s something for everyone. The My Little Pony Dream Castle provided hours of fun, and Snake Mountain gave the evil warriors a lair to lure Eternian Heroes. Of course, Sectaurs Hyve playset towered over all of them!
Gobots Command Center? Check. BMX bikes? Rad! My Buddy? Wherever you go, he goes! So grab your Voltron Force figures, throw them in your Sling ‘Em Fling ‘Em Wrestling Ring, and circle your favorites in this Toys “R” Us Christmas Dream Book 1985!

Welcome everybody to an all new episode! Today I have a super special guest. Mr. Tommy Avallone! He is the director of the amazing documentary “I Am Santa Claus”. He follows 5 Santa Clauses for an entire year to see just who these men really are, beyond their persona as the “big man”. He asks the question we’ve likely all asked, “who’s lap are my kids actually sitting on?”. He’s also directed other documentaries such as Community College. The Bill Murray Stories. I Love You, You Hate Me. Waldo on Weed and The House From..
Him and I get into his documentary “I Am Santa Claus” and discuss what the filming and editing process was like. His background with Christmas, among many other things. I really hope you all enjoy this episode.
I have been wanting to interview this man for a long time now. I’ve loved his directing style, especially in his Santa Claus documentary. This really meant a lot to me, so thank you again, Tommy!
