What’s up, dudes? I’ve got critically acclaimed singer and songwriter Rehya Stevens here to talk all about Amy Grant Christmas ventures in the ’80s! There was her 1983 release “A Christmas Album,” her 1986 endeavor with Art Garfunkel and Jimmy Webb “The Animals’ Christmas,” and her 1986 tv  special Headin’ Home for the Holidays!

After completing her recent tour, Amy and her husband Gary head home for Christmas. Unfortunately, someone forgot make sure the truck had gas (looking at you, Gary)! And so, an unplanned stop in Montana forces the Christian pop superstar couple to meet some locals, do some shopping, and, of course, sing in the town Christmas show! Oh, Art Garfunkel and Jimmy Webb decide to join them to plug their latest album as well!

It’s a sweet special, even if Ed Begley Jr. plays an odd shopkeeper. And you know you’re in the biz when your collaborators rush out to join you in a local Christmas performance!

Arrowheads and sheep hoof lamps and campfires! Oh my! So grab your hot pink parachute pants, jump in your rental truck, and drive on down to this episode all about Amy Grant Christmas!

What’s up, dudes? B-movie queen Sybil Danning bares it all in this Christmas(?) tale of seduction and murder, and I’ve got Shawn, Jaime, and Pax from Cult Film Club, Crestwood House, I Read Movies, Plastic Rocket Pop, and more to talk all about it! That’s right! It’s the 1984 erotic thriller “They’re Playing with Fire!”

Literature professor Diane hires her student Jay to varnish her yacht’s woodwork.  After seducing him, she convinces him to help her and her husband Michael get their inheritance. Jay will break in Michael’s mom Lillian’s house scaring her enough to move to a nursing home so Diane and Michael can move in. Jay breaks in, but is chased away by Lillian. An unknown assailant then kills Lillian. Meanwhile, Jay’s ex-girlfriend is killed by a man in a Santa Claus suit in a play room decorated for Christmas. As suspicion falls on the trio, blame and thoughts of revenge are thrown around. Oh, yeah, and there’s an incestuous love child step-brother of Michael hiding out somewhere. Forgot to mention that. Long story short, Michael is killed and Jay and Diane inherit everything and fly off to Hawaii.

Killer Santa? Check. Evil long lost brother? Yup. Awkward love scenes? Definitely! So grab your baseball bat, put on your most ill fitting swimsuit, and board your yacht for this episode about “They’re Playing with Fire!”

What’s up, dudes? It’s a prog rock Christmas! Yes, we’re talking Chris Squire and Alan White’s “Run with the Fox!” This single along with B-side “Return of the Fox” was recorded and released in 1981 on Atlantic Records. The song is a masterclass on pedal point, syncopation, and suspended chords, with a driving beat and occasional mixed meter just to keep things interesting.

Chris Squire and Alan White played bass and drums respectively for progressive rock band Yes, and co-wrote the Christmas song with King Crimson lyricist Peter Sinfield. How? You ask. Well, Yes frontman Jon Anderson and keyboardist Rick Wakeman had left the group in 1980, replaced by Geoff Downes and Trevor Horn from The Buggles. After an album and tour, Yes disbanded in ‘81 and Squire and White continued to work together, composing “Return of the Fox” with Squire on vocals. Naturally it got a lot of airplay through the ‘80s and early ‘90s during the Christmas season.

Synths? Check. Pedal tones? Yup. Obscure metaphoric lyrics? Definitely! So grab your bass, call your backup choir, and run with this episode!

What’s up, dudes?  I pity the fool who misses this episode all about the toughest man in the world! Yes, Bradley Lyndon from Million Monkey Theater joins me to talk all about the team up between Mr. T and Emmanuel Lewis in this wacky 1984 special!

Mr. T stars as Benny, a Salvation Army-style Santa  who meets a young latch-key kid, played by Emmanuel Lewis of TV’s Webster, who seems to have lost his Christmas spirit. Mr. T sets out to change Billy’s mind, taking him around the city to all the touristy must see spots! First up is FAO Schwartz, where    David Copperfield gives him an ‘80s cigarette smoke filled magic lesson. There’s even an Olympic figure skater routine at Rockefeller Center! The duo then proceed to Radio City Music Hall, where Maureen McGovern serenades them with Christmas songs. In typical kid fashion, Webster falls asleep watching a rehearsal and consequently imagines himself as one of the toy soldiers in the Rockettes’ Christmas Show. Oh yeah, he also meets Willie Tyler and his dummy Lester. Naturally, in the big holiday  finale, he’s moved to realize the true meaning of Christmas, before being reunited with his workaholic parents.

This one’s got it all! ‘80s icons? Check. Former variety show stars? Yup. The true meaning of Christmas? As only Mr. T could tell it! So grab your gold chains, pack your trick quarter and cigarettes, and take an incredibly expensive carriage ride to this episode!

What’s up, dudes? Shopping for toys should be one of the JOYS OF CHRISTMAS! That’s right! I’ve got Nicholas Pepin of Pop Culture Roulette and Santa Ambassador Matt Spaulding from  North Pole Radio here to talk all about Kay·Bee Toy & Hobby Shops, known later as KB Toys!

It was the toy store in the mall, and we loved it!  When mom and dad went to check out the deals on new appliances at Sears, we checked out the aisles full of action figures and playsets! Fully stocked shelves and NES games behind the counter, Kay·Bee took our fun seriously! And they definitely never treated us like a grinch!

It gave us good service, good prices, good selection, and convenient locations in shopping malls across the country. Billed as full-time, year-round toy specialists, they had large selections in all categories. They were fully stocked with an immense variety of toys, dolls, games, hobbies, HO trains, road racing, doll house miniatures, and much, much more! In fact, you could even pick up these items in they’re “what Santa forgot” after Christmas sales!

As well, they wanted us to be around after the holidays (presumably to buy more toys, of course).

G.I.Joes? Check. Garbage Pail Kids? By the register. Puppets in their commercials? Definitely! So call up your crew, head to the mall, and hang out in this episode!

What’s up, dudes? If your stocking gets stolen and your tree can’t be found, you may as well call us ’cause we’ll be around. We have to work Christmas, so if you’re in a pinch, just give Blue Moon a jingle and ask for the Grinch. That’s right! Karen Flieger from The Retro Network, Ken Kessler from Sounds of Christmas, and Michael Christelman of the Saturday Morning Mafia are here to talk the “Moonlighting” Christmas episode It’s a Wonderful Job!

When the staff rebels after being forced to work on Christmas, Maddie (Cybill Shepherd) wishes she had never kept Blue Moon Detective Agency open. Enter Albert, her angel, the Clarence to her George Bailey. Albert shows her how everyone’s lives could’ve turned out had her wish been granted, ultimately culminating in her alternate self’s apparent suicide. With her wish to live renewed and the dawning realization of the impact their lives have on each other, Maddie celebrates Christmas and gives the office staff time to do likewise! Oh, and there’s a juicy kiss with David too! Will they? Won’t they?

Yes, “Moonlighting” had it all! Fletch’s boss as an angel? Check. Cheryl Tiegs cameo? Yup. Dynamic chemistry? Definitely! So grab your angel, let him show you around, and take the elevator to this fourth wall-breaking episode!

What’s up, dudes? Christmas Eve in Gotham: uptown, the streets are filled with last-minute shoppers and the cheering jingle of chimes. But here, in the forgotten part of the city, the streets are almost deserted, save for a handful of scavengers and their unfortunate victim—and the very special sort of vengeance which lurks in the sheltering shadows! That vengeance is Santa Ambassador Matt Spaulding from  North Pole Radio and Thom Crowe from ‘Tis the Podcast who join me to talk “Batman Monthly,” a 1988 UK comic from London Editions Magazine which reprinted older Batman stories.

Volume 6 contains two classic Batman stories. In “Have Yourself a Deadly Little Christmas,” Batman races to rescue a young girl from death by suicide. In his way stands the Blockbuster! In “Silent Night, Deadly Night,” Denny O’Neil tells a tale of redemption when Batman helps a desperate and disgruntled former employee of a toymaker make up for his misdeeds.

With the likes of Len Wein, Denny O’Neil, and Dick Giordano on these stories in “Batman Monthly,” the Batman’s humanity shines through! Christmas tree lot fight? Yup. Attempted strangulation with Christmas lights? Of course. Bruised and beaten Santas? Definitely. So grab your pipe tobacco present, hop in the Batmobile, and drive into this episode!

What’s up, dudes? NES was the greatest thing ever in the ’80s! In fact, it was so great they made a magazine about it! I’ve got Mike Westfall of  Advent Calendar House and Chad Young from Horror Movie BBQ here with me to dive into the memories of the ‘88 and ‘89 November/December issues of the bimonthly Nintendo Power magazine! Beginning in 1988, Nintendo Power was the brainchild of Howard Phillips and Gail Tilden, and was the natural evolution of the Nintendo Fun Club, used as a customer retention marketing tool and sales predictor. Yo, and it worked! From favorites to flops, we get into all of it! Remember Faxanadu? We sort of do. What about Track and Field II? No? Think Olympic button smasher! I know you remember Mega Man II, Super Mario Bros 3, Castlevania, Metroid, and more! There were also polls and articles, contests and cartoons! That’s right! Howard and Nester showed us both sides of gaming and kept us in stitches at the same time! Draw your faves on an envelope or write to a game counselor! Win a trip to Disney or maybe Bill and Ted’s phone booth. Either way leave the power glove, take the control pad! So grab your snacks, get your bean bag chair ready, and marathon this episode!
