🎄 It’s the 200th episode of the Advent Calendar House, but more importantly, it’s Christmas Eve! So we’re celebrating with a salute to the last remaining special we have left to talk about in the Rankin/Bass Christmas canon: 1974’s “The Year Without a Santa Claus.”
It’s a packed party with Tim Babb, Michael DiGiovanni, Joey O., and Matt Spaulding as we spread Christmas cheer over Southtown and everywhere else — something we could’ve seen Mrs. Claus search for if she hadn’t immediately dropped the idea, but then we wouldn’t have met the true stars of the special: The Miser Bros.

We made it! Can you believe it? Somehow, Christmas Eve is already here! This year absolutely flew by!
As tradition dictates, we’re thrilled to bring you our annual Christmas Eve story, lovingly recorded by the elves just for you. This year’s tale is an original piece written by our very own Anthony, titled “’Twas the Night Before ’Tis-Mas”—a festive celebration of “Tis the Podcast“, all the Christmas movies we adore, as well as the ones we love to roast.
So put the finishing touches on your wrapping, cozy up beside the Christmas tree with your favorite holiday beverage, sit back, and enjoy.
Thank you, as always, for the love and support! And thanks for counting down to Christmas 2025 with us! We can’t wait to spend the year ahead counting down to Christmas 2026 right alongside you!

What’s up, dudes? It’s Christmas Eve! Yes, today begins Christmastide. To celebrate, I’ve got Thom Crowe from ‘Tis the Podcast and Art Kilmer from A Cozy Christmas with to talk about the Octavo Kalendas Ianuarii. The Proclamation of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ is a traditional chant that summarizes salvation history.
Originally a part of the office of Prime, the chant was effectively abolished with the reform of Vatican II. That all changed in 1980 when Pope John Paul II re-introduced it prior to the Nativity of The Lord: Mass During the Night. While not in its traditional placement, it still ushered in Christmas grandly. One could even argue, it brought the Proclamation to more prominence.
The chant runs through salvation history, beginning from the creation of the world. Then, it catalogues major events of the Judeo-Christian faith: the creation of man, the great flood, the sacrifice of Abraham, the exodus from Egypt. After listing David and Daniel, it segues into secular history with the Olympiad and the reign of Caesar Augustus. It ends on a triumphant note with the actual birth of Christ.
Reciting tones? Yep. Historical Cliff’s Notes? Uh huh. Elevated pitch for the mention of Christ’s birth? Only if everyone has to genuflect as well! So grab your missal, put on your cassock and surplice, and pray along to this episode on the Kalenda: The Proclamation of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ!

Season eight ends with what I hope will be a tradition–a Christmas party, with a few guests and a lot of music.
This week’s guests include comic artist Peter Bagge, singer Judy Whitmore, and indie rock artist Hibou.
Bagge is coming to New Orleans in January for the Fan Expo, and I have been a fan dating back to his NYC punk days. He’s best known for the comic Hate and the young-punks-in-love adventures of Buddy Bradley and his friends. Last year, he considered how they’d grow up in Hate Revisited.
While talking, we discussed his favorite Christmas music.
I also talked to vocalist Judy Whitmore, who has also been pilot Judy Whitmore, author Judy Whitmore, and … I’ll let her explain. Her album, Christmas, flies the flag for the classic aesthetics of Christmas music.
I also mention in the episode an article by April Clare Welsh at ChartMetric.com that quotes me in her piece on the way Christmas music is become sadder. Is that perhaps because the world is getting sadder?
I also featured new Christmas music from É Arenas, whose 2024 interview ran in full earlier this season. This year, he recorded a new song, “Go Santa Go,” and included it with all of his holiday music on the new vinyl album, Yo Soy Tu Santa.
Earlier this year, I interviewed the indie pop artist Hibou for my non-Christmas website, My Spilt Milk, but while I had him on the line, I had to ask him about Christmas music as well.
In this bonus episode, take a listen to some new British Christmas songs that I’ve found to be a delight this year and gift in your aural stockings (aka your ears) to check out this year and add to your playlists.
It’s the final super Christmas episode of 2025 from Merry Britsmas! Let’s hear from some friends about the newest British Xmas adverts, an unconventional nativity in The Vicar of Dibley, and a glam rock festive song with The Darkness.

What’s up, dudes? Red Skelton wasn’t just Father Time! He had many characters. Sean Sotka from the Christmas Podcasts Podcast and I talk one of Red’s most beloved in “Freddy the Freeloader’s Christmas Dinner!” Yes, the lovable clown spreads Christmas cheer!
Freddie the Freeloader returns a rich lady’s runaway dog. He’s excited because he saved enough money to enjoy a Christmas dinner with his equally poverty-stricken friend Professor Humperdo at one of New York’s fancy restaurants. After running into Molly, he gives her some money to help her celebrate Christmas.
Along the way, he visits a hospital and entertains some sick children. They’re enthralled by his pantomime and magic routines. Subsequently, he proceeds to the police station to spring the Professor from the drunk tank. At the restaurant, they realize they’ve given all their money away. Luckily, the rich lady with the dog sees them and pays for their dinner.
Sick children? Check. Street urchins? Got ‘em. Pompous dyspeptic millionaires? Only with kind wives who buy dinner! So grab your sock wallet, put on your face paint, and clown around to this episode on “Freddy the Freeloader’s Christmas Dinner!”

This episode arrives on Christmas Eve Eve. It’s our final family gathering of the season, where members of the Christmas Past family share some of their favorite Christmas memories.
How does Santa Claus deliver presents to hundreds of millions of homes in a single night?
Many say it’s impossible—but the science might disagree.
In this episode, we dive deep into the physics, mathematics, and global logistics of Santa Claus, exploring how relativity, quantum mechanics, advanced algorithms, nanotechnology, and even artificial intelligence could explain the greatest delivery operation in history.
We break down the staggering numbers—millions of homes, thousands of visits per second, and near-light-speed travel—and explore why classical physics would vaporize Santa instantly. Then, we go beyond the impossible, examining cutting-edge theories including time dilation, quantum superposition, wormholes, warp drives, molecular assembly, stealth cloaking, and AI-driven route optimization.
But Santa’s secret weapon may not be speed at all.
By examining global gift-giving traditions—from St. Nicholas Day and Sinterklaas, to New Year’s Eve with Ded Moroz, Three Kings Day, and Orthodox Christmas—we reveal how Santa’s workload is actually spread across multiple calendars and cultures, turning a one-night miracle into a brilliantly optimized seasonal operation.
This episode blends real science, various mathematical theories, cultural history, and holiday wonder, making it perfect for curious adults, kids, and families alike.
