So this episode is late. The Festive Fans had to attend a family celebration and a memorable party, but it was not Christmas. It was a wedding, an event that is surprisingly similar to our favorite holiday. They are both bright, warm, and full of promise. I thought about this while sitting on a beach in the dark, meditating about life, in the moonlit shadow of a beautiful Chicago skyline. Also, I considered how a tuxedo was never meant to be worn in the sand.
I sat there, half-buried in the beach, my shorts full of wet grit, staring at the horizon as the sun made its slow entrance. I was thinking about how special times can create joy in our ordinary lives. We crave these common rituals that bind us together, because they heighten our emotions when something special is taking place.
Like the day after Christmas, the morning after a wedding has the same touch of melancholy. I felt a bit sad, but also was filled with gratitude and reflection, because the wedding event was over. In my nostalgic funk, I also began to think about tonight’s movie, Bodies at Rest. It is from 2019, but it feels like a retro 1980s thriller. The story begins on a stormy Christmas Eve, when an armed force takes over a public facility to help cover for one of its gang, who recently committed a crime. Now this may sound a lot like the premise for Die Hard 2, but it is instead a Chinese action flick, filmed in Hong Kong, and directed by the same Renny Harlin. It features bad guys wearing Santa, Elf, and Rudolph masks, and a hero pathologist with the seasonally appropriate name of Nick.
My musings brought me full circle to Hong Kong, a region that offers the same enchantment of Christmas, with how it combines tradition and modernity together. It’s a place that dazzles with its brilliant glow. Hong Kong has experienced a lot in the past 25 years when it transferred to China after 156 years of British rule. I considered all of this as I watched the sun crawl over the horizon in my disheveled outfit. In the same way that the day after Christmas and the day after a wedding are not about endings, neither was the handover of Hong Kong. While celebrations shine brightly for a time, the days that follow can feel empty and quiet when our memories shift from the present into the past. But, like a fragile ornament, if handled with care, the new times will endure and become stronger, lasting, and real.

What’s up, dudes? It’s a Peekskill miracle as Troy from Christmas Every Day joins me to talk all about the TheFacts of Life “The Christmas Show” episode! It’s a found family situation with Tootie, Natalie, Blair, Jo, and Mrs. Garrett. They learn about life and love and how to adult together, and we loved it!
It’s Christmas, and Jo just found out her plans to spend it with her mom are bust due to her mom’s work schedule. So Blair and Tootie cook up a fixed phony raffle to buy Jo a plane ticket to Miami. Consequently, when Jo learns of the deceit, she feels like a charity case and gives Blair the stink eye. Meanwhile, Mrs. Garrett tries to sell fruitcakes to earn a little extra income. She even has Mr. Lazaroni help out as Santa.
While Natalie awaits a coveted stereo, Tootie helps her get into the holiday spirit as well. Mrs. Garrett drives the three girls to the airport, and Jo and Mr. Lazaroni help her close up shop. Mr. L shows Mrs. G the true meaning of Christmas spirit when he refuses his paycheck and asks for the remaining fruitcakes. Subsequently, Blair returns Christmas Eve to spend the holiday with Jo and Mrs. Garrett. It’s a Christmas miracle!
Fake raffles? Check. Oversized furs? Of course–it’s the ’80s. Fruitcake? Enough to build a room! So grab your coat, head to Peekskill, and enjoy this episode on The Facts of Lifei “The Christmas Show!”

The Christmas Cousins are back for their Second Annual Fall Creamer Taste Test!
Because if there’s one thing we love more than spreading year-round holiday cheer, it’s bravely taking on the “hard work” of sipping sugary seasonal creamers for the greater good. (You’re welcome.)
This year’s lineup? Brown sugar, pumpkin spice, and all the other liquid fall fantasies your local grocery store can throw at us. Cousin Lee and Cousin Wife Leslie join the fun, while Christmas Cousin Mary requested this very episode, so you can thank her for the pumpkin-spiced festivities!
Which creamers will reign supreme? Which ones belong in the clearance bin? Tune in for all the laughs, verdicts, and seasonal wisdom you didn’t know you needed.
Got a favorite creamer (or a fall treat) we haven’t tried yet? Slide into our DMs, email us, or just peer-pressure Cousin Seth—he’ll cave.

This week, Julia and Anthony (sans Thom because life sometimes gets in the way!) are joined by Kendall Farrae of “Two Girls, One Crypt” and Jay Skipworth of “Film Strip Podcast” to discuss the legacy sequel, “Scream 5“! (Otherwise known as “5cream“; Otherwise known as “Scream“; Otherwise known as “The One Where Ghostface Has An Oscar“!)
Everyone knows Anthony is in the bag for this franchise, but where do our two horror guests stand? And does this one work better for Julia, who loved the original film but was disappointed by the previous three sequels? Well, you’ll just have to tune in to find out! But one thing we can guarantee: this is one fun episode you don’t want to miss, filled with plenty of movie recommendations and film trivia!
So settle back with your pumpkin spice lattes, relax, and enjoy! And, as always, thanks for your love and support, y’all! 🍂🎃👻🎅🏻🎄🎁 🦌🦉⛄️🚂🔔 🤶🏻 🎀 ❄️
*Side Note: You may want to listen to this one without the young children around, as there’s some questionable language used within when quoting the film!*

Our Halloween Horror Marathon returns, and my old Body Count Horror Podcast co-host Christopher joins me to review Disconnected (1984). We also revisit candy and cereal fantasy drafts that we did in 2017. At the last minute, we decided to stream this episode live on Prankcast and were joined by a bunch of friends in the chat. It was a lot of fun!
Also, visit our blog to follow along with all the horror films we’ll be watching from now until Halloween. We hope to be back with another horror episode in October and may livestream again!

Is it possible to have a Christmas song that is famous and yet unknown?
That is, in essence, the Legend of Ricky Bland.
In this musical episode we tell the story of Ricky, his miserable Christmas, and the Christmas song from 1987 that you may have heard then but you have not heard since.
Ricky is the epitome of the one-hit Christmas wonder.
We bill it as the Most Depressing Christmas song of all time.

“MARIAH CAREY SUED AGAIN OVER ‘ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU’ — BY THE SAME GUY,” according to Billboard.
“Mariah Carey is SUED AGAIN over All I Want For Christmas Is You… as two writers claim her 1994 classic is a ripoff of their song of the same name” according to The Daily Mail.
“Mariah Carey Sued By Random Man For Allegedly Stealing ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ From Him,” according to Pedestrian.tv.
The story of Andy Stone from New Orleans’ Vince Vance and the Valiants’ copyright infringement lawsuit over “All I Want for Christmas is You” was never taken seriously, as if the idea of suing Mariah Carey was absurd on its face. Withdrawing the suit once and re-filing it probably didn’t help, but Valiant/Stone got to market first with a song titled “All I Want for Christmas is You” in 1989, five years before Carey’s. It charted in the 30s on country radio and showed some durability including covers by LeAnn Rimes and Kelly Clarkson among others.
Carey’s song will never be mistaken for the Vince Vance and the Valiants’ song, but the specifics of copyright law dictate that there are other tests of copyright infringement, so the suit wasn’t obviously as frivolous as some headline writers implied.
This week’s episode tells the story as we know it so far based on media coverage. Along the way, we hear Vince Vance’s version, along with Kelly Clarkson and LeAnn Rimes’ versions. We also hear Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas,” along with the version from Love Actually and covers by She & Him and PJ Morton.
