Sounds of Christmas

Ken Kessler from the Sounds of Christmas talks to Mike from Vista Blue (and Ralphie’s Red Ryders and Tambourine Girlfriend) about his free upcoming Christmas EP, which will be out this Friday. They also talk about Mike’s process for writing Christmas songs, as well as spooky songs and baseball songs. They also talk about the podcast Mike co-hosts with his friend Rusty, Snow In Southtown, and some of what you can hear about in their Thanksgiving episode! Not only does Mike give us some exclusive news on some of his plans for 2022, but he also gives us an exclusive acoustic performance of some of the songs he’s written (some we talked about and some we didn’t)!

Snow in Southtown

Happy Thanksgiving Week! It is hard to believe we are already so close to the big November holiday and that means Christmas is right around the corner! But before we turn the page to Santa Claus and reindeer, we are closing out our Thanksgiving episodes by going back to the land of Boy Meets World.

In this episode, Matt discusses how strange it is for students to win a turkey, how the whole class differences vibe threw him off and how he really struggled to determine whether or not this would be deemed a classic Thanksgiving episode. Get your stretchy pants on, make sure to baste that turkey in the oven and listen in to our final Thanksgiving episode of the year!

Totally Rad Christmas

What’s up, dudes? Chuy from Exploring the Myths Behind the Legends podcast joins me to talk the 1984 slasher “Silent Night, Deadly Night”! We really get into it! There’s repressed trauma, crazy serial killers, strict nuns, and more! Oh, a catatonic grandpa somehow revives long enough to lucidly instill the fear of Santa into a young child! Definitely not a movie for the kiddies! You’ve been warned! So grab your axe, put on your Santa suit, and make sure you’re not being naughty while you listen to this episode!

Title: Ugh! This Is Garbage! I Don‘t Know Why They Are Always Trying To Remake The Classics! (Home Sweet Home Alone)

We’re going back to the theater today! And there’s a mystery afoot…

What happens when the worlds of Sherlock Holmes and Ebenezer Scrooge are thrown together? Find out in the new play that debuts today in NYC, A Sherlock Carol. My guest today is Mark Shanahan, he’s the writer and director of the play. He comes from an extensive background in acting, writing and directing many plays both for the stage and radio. He stops by and we chat about his new play, the challenges of performing theater safely during a pandemic, and the power of stories – especially those by Arthur Conan Doyle and Charles Dickens.

Then, I read a Christmas mystery story by Thomas Hardy called “The Thieves Who Couldn’t Stop Sneezing.” It is a funny short story about a young man named Hubert who stumbles across some thieves planning to rob a nearby mansion. Find out what happens in this charming holiday tale.
