Welcome to the ‘Ber months, all of you friends of the elves out there! As the days get shorter and cooler, we dip our toes into a controversial “Is It or Isn’t It a Christmas Movie” movie: 2005’s Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer. Regardless of where the hosts fall on the Christmas question, there’s no denying the discussion about this cult classic is a lively one! So, breathe in that crisp, nearly autumnal air as we talk this shoot ’em up whodunit, honor the passing of the incredible Chadwick Boseman, and create some pretty darn amazing Christmas movie night double-features!

As we enter the Bermonths, we bid farewell to the summer of 2020 with a look at an amusement park that closed on this day in 1971. The story of Palisades Amusement Park isn’t just it’s history but also the foundation of all amusement parks that have come since.
In the News (11:45), Kris and Chris discuss the reimagining of the Thanksgiving Day Parade and the lengths people are taking to get a little taste of Broadway.
In Listener Mail (15:54), Chris tells a story about a run in with a pop star on the train.
Finally, in Christmas Confidential (19:22), they disclose a sweet story about a dad trying to keep the magic of Christmas alive and a slightly awkward story about a close mom and son. Stay tuned and subscribe if you haven’t already. Stay safe and Happy Holidays!

Hello you beautiful people, you have been sorely missed.
It’s Episode 12 of the podcast and this week we’re proud to announce we have a Number 1 fan (self-appointed) and he shares his Worst Christmas Present Ever.
This week’s recommendation is also this week’s Santa Claus is NOT Coming to Town. It’s the excellent Christmas Past Podcast and the presenter, Brian Earl, tells the story of how he discovered the truth about Santa.
Christmas Past talks about the history of all the traditions we love at Christmas, it’s educational and entertaining and the website is also lots of fun.

Yule Lad of the week is Pot Scraper, he has an ingenious method to help him steal your pots and give them a good scraping, but I can’t help thinking this could all be avoided if people would just clean their pots and pans.

Happy Monday, everybody! Can you believe that it’s already the last day of August? We are officially in the Ber Months as of tomorrow! To celebrate the occasion, the elves are joined by Gerry D. of Totally Rad Christmas to discuss the 1991 family-film, All I Want for Christmas. While Gerry, Julia, and Thom all have a history – and therefore, some form of nostalgia – with this movie, Anthony is going in completely blind; will this New York Fairy Tale win him over? Does this movie in general hold up to anyone who wasn’t raised in the nineties? What do all of them think of this pre-Hocus Pocus performance of Thora Birch? And how does Leslie Nielsen stack up against the other actors who have portrayed Santa Claus on this show so far? All of this and much, much more are discussed in this episode – including how homeschooling during the time of COVID is going for Julia’s kids; how Thom and Gerry are dealing with life in quarantine due to being exposed to Coronavirus; and what all of the elves, plus their special guest, think of the first trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman. So settle back with your favorite pumpkin drink, blast that air-conditioning, enjoy this fun episode, and take solace in the fact that we have officially arrived at the Ber Months!
*Note – Please excuse Thom’s bad audio quality this episode. Due to living in Quarantine while recording, and the unstable internet that comes along with it, it’s not always clear. This will be resolved by next week’s episode!*

Santa’s reindeer are in trouble! With new Covid mandates, Leavenworth Reindeer Farm in WA is in danger. The daughter of the owners speaks to Rikki about caring for the animals, Christmas on the reindeer farm, and our favorite reindeer next to Rudolph – Moonshine. See the adorable photos on our social pages: Twitter @BellsSleigh InstaGram and Facebook Sleigh Bells & Mistletoe Christmas Podcast.
Our series on the Victorian Christmas concludes with an in-depth look at the stuff of Christmas – the décor, the music, the food and the celebration.
We also get a good look at the fads, which include the runaway tradition of Christmas cards that, for some, got a bit out of hand. The dialogue, the poetry and the debates of Christmas cards are discussed as part of an exploration of the relationships between men and women – and they their gift giving differed during the late 19th century.
We also share the unforgotten classical Christmas music of the Santa Claus Christmas Symphony, a masterpiece written before Jingle Bells in the early 1850s and we explain why it hasn’t achieved the well-known status of other Christmas music of the time. You can hear this great piece of music via this video:
The Victorian Era closes with the well-known story of Virginia O’Hanlon and her query “Is there really a Santa Claus?” You know that story.
But what you might not know is why she could have posed the question in the first place. We explore the blow back that developed late in the 1890s not only to the idea of Santa Claus but also to the idea of the Christmas tree, Christmas decorating and holiday gift giving.
No discussion of this time would be complete without exploring the food of the time and we cover the big items of Christmas turkey, cookies, eggnog…and rum.
