What’s up, dudes? Ashley Dunbar from the Magic of the Season and Charlyn Lewis from Take a Chic Peek and And This Christmas Will Be join me to gab about the greatest doll around! Yep, it’s all about Barbie! There’s so much to discuss that we even have a special guest appearance by Kim Cooper from Planning for Christmas!

In the 1981 Kid Stuff album Christmas, spend a joyous Christmas with Barbie and Ken. It’s a modern musical retelling of The Nutcracker Suite. In Barbie’s dream she is transformed into a beautiful doll under the Christmas Tree. When the toys come alive, Barbie and Ken are swept away in an adventure to the stars. They travel to Hoth…no, Arcticana, where they are trapped by the Snow Queen. Spoilers: they escape! You’ll love the songs, excitement and holiday fun of Christmas with Barbie! The talking story book A Barbie Christmas Party sees Barbie and Ken overcome the odds to host a holiday party! It’s a fantastic, if not frantic, tale with caroling, gift giving, and planning the perfect shindig!

Holiday Barbie? Check. Barbie Christmas records? Uh huh.. A Toy Story-esque nightmare with an inexplicable ice planet? Of course! So grab your holiday gown, hop in your pink convertible, and drive to your dream house with this episode all about Barbie!

This week on Australia’s ONLY Christmas Podcast we TALK TURKEY. Why baked turkeys need to be immediately banned from all Christmas dinners ASAP? We have new evidence to suggest there’s trouble with turkey.

Both hosts held epic Christmas in July parties. We unpack what worked, what didn’t and the sneaky tricks they played on each other in the lead up to the big mid year celebrations. Plus

We find meaning in the true spirit of giving back at Christmas time. Why it’s so important and the simple things you can do to literally change someone’s world.

Merry Christmas.
It’s another packed episode with all sorts of festive goodness.

First up we have a change from our regular quiz format.  Our American-Scandinavian correspondent Benji Pearson has sent in a quiz about Christmas in Scandinavia and, spoiler alert, it’s a tricky one.

Then Bob Baker gives us a lovely suggestion on how to make the most of Christmas in July with it’s lovely summer Christmas music.

Then I have an interview with a friend of my family, Jade, who spent the first 14 years of her life in South Africa.  She tells us about the differences between a South African Christmas and ones in her new home in the UK.

Then Bob returns and we discuss the use of the word ‘Brilliant’.
It’s…….
very good.  (see what I did there).

This episode’s recommendation is Advent Calendar House Podcast with Mike Westfall.
All this month he’s been releasing his July episodes.  Make the most of them because he won’t be back again until December.

TGI Podcast

Welcome back to our FINAL week of Christmas in July! It has been a blast covering these animated shows and we cap it off with another classic: The Jetsons!

Matt discusses why this doesn’t hit the same as The Flintstones for him, how he couldn’t understand why the dog turned green and, as always, determined whether or not this episode should be deemed a holiday classic! Additionally, it is also discussed what will be dropping in the coming months as we inch closer to the ‘Ber months!

It’s a colorful challenge, but Mark and Bob are just the two-dimensional, cartoonish guys to tackle this episode’s first animated film Tokyo Godfathers.   Mark goes deep, but Bob — he’s here for the anime pillows, electric eels, and Kentucky Fried Chicken.  All that’s missing is Pokemon and Hello Kitty!  Yes, Mark is still injured, but the boys  manage a tour of the Pacific Rim and the lively and eclectic country of Japan.  We stumble our way through a touching story, original characters, fun customs, and Tatsuro Yamashita’s popular song “Christmas Eve” (with English words too!)   So, let’s take a pause to bask in the holiday rays from the Land of the Rising Sun!

Festive

Welcome to episode 86 of Holly Jolly X’masu! In this special Christmas in July episode, I talk about a selection of summery Christmas songs from a variety of artists.

As I said in the episode, I really enjoy putting these episodes together. It gives me a chance to share some songs that might not fit in another episode, and artists I wouldn’t be able to cover otherwise. At this point, I think I’ve found all the low-hanging fruit, so it will take a lot of digging to find other Summer Christmas songs. I have plenty for next year, and should be good for the following July, but I’ll have to work hard to find more than that. Just to recap, I’ve posted the titles and album covers for the songs from this episode below.

1. Pauro Cesar Trio – Merry X’mas In Summer

2. Akiko Ozawa – Christmas In August

3. Masako-san – Summer Christmas

4. You Hayami – Summer Holy Night

5. Momoiro Clover Z – Midwinter Sunshine Summer Time

6. Conny, Dibbs, Boz & Friends – Surfers Christmas Wish

7. Sexy Zone – It Snows In Sexy Summer

8. Mariko Nagai – Midsummer Eve

9. Natsuko Upper Crust – X’mas & Sun

10. Tenchi Souko and Honey Knights – Aloha Santa

11. Snyder – Rise ’80 – Midsummer Eve

I hope you enjoyed this year’s Christmas in July. This is probably my most eclectic selection of songs yet. I can’t overstate how thrilled I was to finally get a few of them.

August is 80s month, so be sure to join me back here for a couple of great 80s episodes. In my first August episode, I’ll be paying tribute to the legendary Ryuichi Sakamoto who passed away earlier this year. I’ll be covering the 1983 movie, “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence,” and its soundtrack. Then join me on the 25th when I cover the MIDI label’s 1988 compilation, “Winter Tales.” I’ll follow that up in September with their 1992 compilation, “Winter Tales 2.” If I get a little extra time, I’ll try to put out a bonus episode. Whatever the case, I’ll be covering some fantastic music and a true classic movie, so be sure to tune in.

As always, any feedback on this episode would be appreciated. If have any suggestions, or if you’d like to recommend a song or album for a future episode, drop me a line and let me know.

Remember, I’ve added a button to my Ko-fi page. If you’d like to support me one cup of coffee at a time, a donation is only $3. I’ve also opened a Redbubble store. I only have a couple designs up, but keep an eye on it as I’ll be trying to add more. Half of any proceeds or donations received will be donated to support the people of Ukraine, while the rest will be used to purchase new Japanese Christmas music to review for future episodes. You can also find me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. And if you get a chance, leave me a review on iTunes. Thanks!
