Happy Monday, Christmas Fanatics! And Happy August! We’re in the final four weeks of the year before we hit the ‘Ber Months! How exciting is that?!
Due to vacation and work schedules, the elves are taking a much needed week off. Never fear though! Anthony is back once more with a special “Summerween” treat that he recorded a few weeks back in anticipation for this moment! Yet again, he is joined by his good friend, Cookie, to finish off their mini arc of episodes covering Ti West’s and Mia Goth’s “X” trilogy!
Previously, they revisited “X”, they re-watched “Pearl“, and now they’ve finally seen “MaXXXine” and are ready to talk about it! This time, however, the two are not fully in sync. when it comes to their feelings, so expect some friendly fireworks to fly as they dive deep into and discuss the final chapter of Maxine Minx’s story! Is it a fitting ending for “the star” who has always refused to “accept a life she does not deserve”? Well, you’ll just have to tune in to find out!
This is a really fun one – despite some audio issues on the part of Anthony (sorry!) – and is sure to tide you over and keep you entertained until all three elves return next week with your regularly scheduled Christmas programming! So, settle back and enjoy!
As always, thanks for your love and support, y’all! ❤️🎅🏻🎄🎁 🦌🦉⛄️🔔🚂 🤶🏻 🎀 ❄️

What’s up, dudes? We interrupt your regularly scheduled summer day to bring you this special news bulletin! Yes, Mike Westfal of Advent Calendar House and Tim Babb from Can’t Wait for Christmas are one the scene with me to talk all about the 1989 “Sesame Street News Flash: Santa Claus” sketch!
From episode 2592 of season 20, this three minute news flash sees ace reporter Kermit the Frog attempt to catch Santa in the act of delivering presents on Christmas Eve. The sketch was directed by Jon Stone, and was originally titled ‘A Clean Sweep.’ Our green correspondent hides behind a family’s Christmas tree, and springs into action upon hearing a noise from the chimney. To his great surprise, a “Bert from Mary Poppins”-esque chimney cleaner, C. Sweep, tumbles out of the fireplace. Apparently he was hired to unclog the chimney! And on Christmas Eve of all times!
Kermit admonishes the Victorian London sweep and encourages him to clean the chimney post haste! Unwittingly, C. Sweep clears the obstruction, and out pops Santa Claus himself! This is why Gary Shandling greases his chimney. Santa immediately sits to rest, and Sweep jumps on his lap and starts reciting his Christmas list. Kermit gets dragged into the whole charade. It’s almost as wacky as the time Kermit saw the holiday mascots get mixed up.
Mandatory Jerry Nelson voice? Yep. Anything muppets? Sweep and Santa, of course. Flustered flippers? Only Kermit’s! So grab your microphone, hide behind a Christmas tree, and help a chimney sweep unclog this episode about “Sesame Street News Flash: Santa Claus!”

Hello you beautiful people!
It’s another packed show and we start off by looking at a tradition from Yorkshire here in the UK. The Yorkshire Christmas Pie was a multiple bird roast inside a pie.
Alas it’s not really a thing these days, but I give you a recipe so you can go and make your own.
Then Bob Baker our podcast barman looks at the word ‘Torch’ in Do You Hear What I Hear.
Next up it’s the quiz. I scored a respectable 8, see if you can do better.
A couple of years ago Benji Pearson asked me to help him design his Halloween costume of Jacob Marley, well this year he’s looking at being The Ghost of Christmas Present. We discuss what he looks like in What The Dickens.
Then Bob is back with Spread a Smile of Joy and he’s suggesting a lovely concept called Santa’s Kindness Ornament and Journal from Demdaco.

This episode’s version of A Christmas Carol is 1200 Ghosts. It’s a YouTube mash up that takes clips from 400 versions of A Christmas Carol and puts them together to tell the story. It’s definitely worth a watch:

I have so little surf Christmas music in my collection that I turned to WTUL DJ Hunter King, host of “Storm Surge of Reverb” to see if there was a substantial body of surf Christmas music. As I expected, the answer is yes.
We talk about old and new Christmas surf, Hunter’s relationship to Christmas music, and vinyl because it almost goes without saying that as a surf music fan, he’s a vinyl guy.
In the episode, I mention my insane Dick Dale interview–really a monologue–and it’s so dizzying it’s worth your time.
I was pleasantly surprised how easy much of today’s playlist was to find. A lot is on Bandcamp, and I found The Avalanches’ Ski Surfin’at the iTunes Store. I only had to ask for mp3s from Hunter for The HE 5, and you can find their excellent version of “Auld Lang Syne” on the 2015 Psych-Out Christmascompilation. I assume Iggy Pop’s version of “White Christmas” was the album’s sales pitch, but I got it for the versions of “Silent Night” and “Jingle Bell Rock” by New Orleans’ Quintron and Miss Pussycat.
Finally, in the closing notes I mentioned the best-of shows I did after reaching episode 100. Here’s the first of that series.

Christmas in July is coming to a close and that means we have one final episode to drop! This week we are covering the second Christmas episode of The Simpsons: Marge Be Not Proud.
We go deep into the story behind this episode and how its guest star was a bit of a handful. Come give it a listen!

What’s up, dudes? It’s another entry in the Christmas Adjacent category! That’s right! We’re talking “The Last Starfighter” Tim Williams from 80’s Flick Flashback, Joe Fulton the Christmas Aficionado, and DJ Chad Sheppard.
Alex Rogan is a regular kid from a trailer park. When he beats the high score on a starfighter arcade machine, an alien named Centauri recruits him to defend the frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan armada. Centauri takes him to space where he meets his copilot Grig, but the overwhelming expanse of his new responsibilities scares Alex. He demands to be taken home. Reluctantly, Centauri agrees.
Back home, however, a Xandoxan assassin is hunting Alex. After defeating the alien, Alex learns of the destruction of the entire fleet. He returns to the starport, mounts his gunstar, and launches a solo attack on the armada, destroying it with the death blossom attack. He subsequently returns to Earth, picks up his girlfriend, and flies back into space to rebuild the gunstar fleet.
Aliens? Check. Cool space battles? Yep. Christmas? Well… maybe a mention or two here and there. So don your spacesuit, hop in your fighter ship, and destroy the armada to this episode on “The Last Starfighter!”

Ken Kessler, from The Sounds of Christmas Podcast, and Scott Leopold, from the Holly Jolly Xmas-U Podcast, join us to talk about lots — and lots — of Santa songs.
Welcome to episode 118 of Holly Jolly X’masu! For my fifth annual Christmas in July episode, I’ll once again be covering a mix of tropical, summery, and out-of-season Christmas songs from a variety of artists.
I hope this episode added a little Christmas spirit to your summer. These episodes where I pull songs from a variety of records and CD’s are a lot of work, but they’re also a lot of fun. I cut down on the number of songs this time, mainly so I could stretch out the ones I have left into another two or three episodes. I wish I’d had the foresight to start that with my earlier episodes. Like usual, I’m posting the titles and album covers from this episode below.
1. Mayumi – Merry Christmas In Summer
2. Monday Michiru – Tahitian Xmas
3. Daisuke Kawakami – Summer Day Silhouette
4. Midori Kinouchi – Christmas A Month Late
5. Ayana Taketatsu – Every Day Merry Christmas
6. Tomoko Omoto – Christmas Under A Coconut Tree
7. Modern Choki Chokies – Santa Is Waiting In Town
8. Minoru Komorita – My Neighbor Is Santa Claus
9. Masayoshi Takanaka – Island Christmas Wish
Don’t forget, August is 80s month, so join me next time for a selection of singles and stray tracks from the 1980s. I have a couple slots left, so if you have any 1980s J-X’mas songs you want to hear, let me know. Then join me on the 25th for Yuzoh Kayama’s 1983 album, “White Christmas.” They should both be a lot of fun, so be sure to tune in.
As always, any feedback on this episode would be appreciated. If have any suggestions, or if you’d like to recommend a song or album for a future episode, drop me a line and let me know.
Remember, I’ve added a button to my Ko-fi page. If you’d like to support me one cup of coffee at a time, a donation is only $3. I’ve also opened a Redbubble store. I only have a couple designs up, but keep an eye on it as I’ll be trying to add more. Half of any proceeds or donations received will be donated to support the people of Ukraine, while the rest will be used to purchase new Japanese Christmas music to review for future episodes. You can also find me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. And if you get a chance, leave me a review on iTunes. Thanks!
