We’re celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and the return of spring with a special podcast episode. We discuss Leprechaun’s Christmas Gold (1981) and briefly compare and contrast it to the Leprechaun horror series. Also: telling your friends to “go,” backing into parking spots, and allowing your kids to get hit in the head with flying vegetables.
The background music includes songs from Altan’s The Red Crow, Bing Crosby, Dennis Day, and the Rankin Bass film. We’ll be back for Leon Day!
Episode 25? That’s a quarter century… hard to believe.
This episode we focus on the wonderful tradition of the Christmas Pickle.
First up we discuss the history of the tradition, does it date back as far as the days of the real St Nicholas, is it from the American civil war or was it just the clever idea of some marketing executive who had too many pickle ornaments left over? Who knows? Not me, I’ll tell you that for nothing.
Next up we listen to some of the ‘wonderful’ songs about Christmas Pickles. Here’s some links if you want to have a listen:
La Legende de Saint Nicolas
The Carol of the Christmas Pickle
A Pickle for my Christmas Tree
Grandma’s Christmas Pickle
Then we have a chat with Rhiannon Cizon from Berrien County Historical Association and she tells us about the Berrien Springs Pickle Festival.

This week’s recommendation is ‘I’m Not Complaining with Robin and Juno’ the brand new podcast from my two young daughters. You can hear the whole first episode at the end of the show.

In this episode, the first for Season 2!, we explore a small piece of some Christmas traditions of a few Native American tribes and how they have integrated, adapted, and influenced Christmas traditions in the Americas in their own special and unique way. There’s a lot to unpack and go through, so there will likely be a part 2 of this at some point in the future.
Today’s episode is short, and no story today. The Lost Tales of Santa Claus will continue next episode with an update on the whole story and what to expect in the coming episodes.

Santa leaves the reindeer on the rooftop to go talk to Joe. Joe doesn’t believe the old man is who he says he is. Plus: Yankees no-hitters; cinematic tooth fairies; wondering how common the usage of the word “wino” is; and a surprisingly dark scene from the book that we were glad didn’t make it into the movie! Join us as we discuss Minute 50 of Santa Claus: The Movie (1985).

What’s up, dudes? The Caped Podcasters themselves join me to talk 1981’s Uncanny X-Men #143 by Chris Claremont and John Byrne! Mistletoe and N’Garai! Hat could possibly go wrong?! Maybe it’s an “Alien” rip-off or maybe it’s just an exercise by the writers to see how far they can push it! Either way, it’s got tons of exposition! Check it out

Happy Monday, Christmas fanatics! This week, the elves are joined by one of our favorite frequent guests – and friends of the pod – Gerry D. of Totally Rad Christmas to discuss the four episodes of the cult classic TV comedy, Community! For those of you who want to join along and watch at home, the episodes we talk about are the following:
Season 1, Episode 12 – Comparative Religion
Season 2, Episode 11 – Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas
Season 3, Episode 10 – Regional Holiday Music
Season 4, Episode 10 – Intro to Knots
Listen as the elves talk histories with the show, discuss how problematic Chevy Chase is (and rectify a mistake they made in the Arrested Development episode by also discussing how problematic Jeffrey Tambor and David Cross are), marvel over how much heart this show actually has and how the majority of the cast has gone on to be pretty huge stars in their own individual rights, and laugh over a plethora of quotes. Also featuring musical interludes between each episode discussion, this is one of elves’ favorite episodes yet, ranking right up their with the likes of The Office and Friends ones.
Also discussed this episode – the major difference about the way the DC and Marvel universes were set up in terms of the comics (though, Anthony mistakenly said the first issue of The Avengers was published before the first issue of Justice League) and, sadly and criminally overlooked in our discussion of the cast, any mention of Alison Brie! (Though, if you want to hear what the elves think of her as an actress, you can go back to last year’s Happiest Season episode in which they discuss her at length!) Trust us when we say, this is one episode you definitely do not want to miss, and one that is guaranteed to put you in the Christmas mood! So enjoy, and make sure to keep your eyes on your podcast feeds this upcoming Thursday for the next chapter of Another Christmas Story as read to you by the always incredible listener, guest, and friend of the show, April Ryley!

This week, we dig into the album Lost Christmas, Holiday Rarities, and explore the songs we’ve heard of. Should they have remained “lost”? Artists include Jackie DeShannon, Leon Russell, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Bobby Goldsboro, and Chuck Berry.
What’s up, dudes? I’ve got not one, but TWO ‘Tis the Podcast Elves with me this week! Anthony, Thom, and I talk Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman! Golden lasso? Check. Spinning transformation? Check. Poisoned toy butterflies? Wait…what?!?! This is a fun one! Oh yeah! There’s a bit of Christmas in it, too! Check it out now!
What happens at the North Pole after Christmas is not something that gets talked about much. There are no songs about it, no movies or television specials. Heck, people hardly ask about it.
But I would tell you that the time right after Christmas is a very important time.
In this episode of the North Pole Podcast elves Frank and Crash talk about what happens immediately after he and Santa return to the North Pole. It is an amazing time of reflection and it has a huge impact on the Christmas to come.
This is an informative and fun episode to kick off the new year in following Santa.
