Stuff you don’t know about Santa is the topic of conversation in this special episode of the North Pole Podcast.
By request from several teachers and many parents we were asked to do a podcast episode about the more unknown things about Santa Claus. With so many missing school or under quarantine due to the Coronavirus people are spending more time than ever trying to learn new things about Santa, what he does and how he does it.
This episode is a real surprise. Joining Elves Frank Myrrh and Crash Murphy of North Pole Radio News is Elf Dr. Grant Smedley, profession of Santa history at Southern North Pole University.
Dr. Smedley is not only a Santa historian he is also Santa’s official biographer.
It was thought that Dr. Smedley would be the one who shares a lot of new information in this episode. But instead he turns the table on Frank and Crash and we end up hearing two fantastic stories of the modern-day Santa that nobody has ever heard.
From these stories we learn a great deal about Santa that we didn’t already know.

It’s Part 1 of a 2 Part episode focused on A Christmas Carol!
In today’s episode, I sit down with author Gina Dalfonzo and talk about the theme of redemption in A Christmas Carol. She had a new book published this year called The Gospel in Dickens, and if you’re interested in the theology of Charles Dickens you should check it out.
So come on in, sit down by the Christmas fire as we discuss some of the theology found in A Christmas Carol.
And stay tuned for the next episode – it’s dropping on December 14, and we will have a very special guest who comes by to chat more about A Christmas Carol.
Note: Religion can be a touchy subject. I know that all my listeners will have different views in their beliefs, and I in no way want to exclude anyone from this episode or the conversation. I’m here to learn and my hope is that this episode gives us all a deeper understanding of the text of A Christmas Carol and the religious beliefs of Charles Dickens that did influence a lot of his writing.
In this very environmentally aware edition of the official holiday podcast for people who make hockey sweaters for vermin, we’re responsibly deforesting our way back to 1980 to dig up “The Christmas Raccoons,” the first appearance of early Disney Channel imports The Raccoons and the greedy Cyril Sneer.
On This Episode:
Mike Westfall (@fallwestmike), generous married couple’s permanent houseguest in a tree that’s clearly bigger on the inside.
Much of this special is contained in an identical dream by both kids and possibly also their dog. From there, it’s hard to tell what parts were the dream and what parts weren’t. Maybe it’s all in St. Elsewhere’s Snow Globe Universe of Tommy Westphall (no relation).
Christmas has marked the passage of history by embedding history into its celebrations. When we talk of history and Christmas together we can sometimes immediately recognize a certain time or event in history that was significant.
For example, when we say “Christmas 1914”, most immediately think of the Christmas Truce. If we say “Christmas 1776” we think of Washington Crossing the Delaware. If we say “Aspenglow” we think of Christmas of 1970.
Ok, so maybe not always.
But we know Christmas 2020 is one of those years. And while most of us would like to forget 2020 we now have on record a library of COVID Christmas music that will never allow us to forget it.
Honestly, we’re talking serious feels here.
I can think of nothing during my lifetime that has brought forth so much diversity in music, crass creation, and Christmas bitterness. It’s an international thing, too (the British humor in these videos is beyond classic). Every genre of music is covered. There are few classic songs of Christmas that haven’t been thoroughly skewered here.
In fact, it makes you think that maybe you haven’t taken all this serious enough. It seems like anyone with a keyboard or a guitar at home — along with some abundant time on their hands – just had to get out their feelings in a burst of sarcasm, sorrow, and honest humor. Some of this is so bad, it’s good — because, well, 2020.
Here are some of the best (or worst) songs of the Covid Christmas:
You know what the sad part of this is?
Our little list here doesn’t even scratch the surface.
Animation week comes to a close with Chris having the boys watch an obscure one season wonder from the early aughts. “Snowflake Day: A Very Special Holiday Episode” from the series Clone High (available on the MTV app or YouTube), isn’t a traditional Christmas episode by any means, but there still might be a few holiday feels to find in this oddball entry.
Non-Christmas topics include: JFK impressions, tiny homes, holiday lumping, Kwanzaa, knorks, setting up jokes, Chili’s, airports, upsetting all the fanbases, celebrity crushes, Mandy Moore, the West Wing, and Chris revealing his master plan to replace Jon and Brian as his cohosts.

On a very unnecessarily loud episode of the increasingly inaccurately named Advent Calendar House, we noisily snowmobile back to 1995 to try and figure out what everyone’s yelling about in “The Weinerville Chanukah Special,” Nickelodeon’s first Hanukkah exclusive, created by Marc Weiner and his puppets who can’t stop screaming.
On This Episode:
Mike Westfall (@fallwestmike), cheap Stormtrooper ripoff who wouldn’t look out of place in a Devo video.
April Ryley (@AprilandPJ), city mayor by day and ski lodge manager by night for at least 8 of them.
We hitting the beach for the holidays! Christmas in the southern hemisphere is filled with sun, sand, and lighter than air desserts. Grab some sunscreen and come with us to explore the history of that fruit-topped meringue: the pavlova.

It’s Christmas time everyone! And Grace and I get the opportunity to interview singer Johanna Jones about her new album “It’s Christmastime”… the album is out already, (which I completely flubbed on, blame it on the COVID brain I had at the time lol!) and it’s available everywhere. (See link below!)
Then Grace and I discuss our thoughts about the new interactive Zoom play put on by the Birmingham Children’s Theater. And finally I read a couple of selections from Nancy Carey Johnson’s book A Vermont Homesteader’s Christmas Memories.
Christmastime is here, whether you are ready or not!
