Season’s Eatings – Boar’s Head

In many of the great Christmas songs there are many references to food.  Who can’t remember singing about chestnuts roasting on a open fire, or traveling to enjoy some pumpkin pie?  But this time I want to travel back to a time when people gathered in great halls and made merry during the twelve days of Christmas. This dish is still found on Christmas tables throughout Sweden.  We’re exploring the history and origins of the boar’s head.

Merry Christmas Week! It is crazy to think this is our last Christmas episode of the year. This week we are covering ‘Jolly Old St. Dick’ from the second season of Third Rock from the Sun.

This episode has A LOT going for it in a very short period of time. Matt waxes poetic over John Lithgow’s masterful performance, he once again expounds on his love of Christmas blow mold decorations and, as always, determines whether or not this episode should be deemed a holiday classic.

The Baby of Bethlehem is the topic of this very personal episode of the Merry Little Podcast.

We sing of Him in song and celebrate the Nativity as a part of every Christmas – but why?

Based on this sincere question from a listener we discuss the tender mercies of Christmas and the effect it has on the living and the dead.

How does one without faith makes sense of it all? Our listener celebrates the season year round, enjoys great traditions of family and joy, and yet cannot connect the merriment to the manger. He wants to understand without the preachy demands of church.

So we explore why The Baby is Christmas in simple, fundamental terms of truth.

We find that in these hard times The Baby is more relevant and important than ever.

What fascinates the most is that they knew He was coming. His birth was anticipated like no other and that theme of anticipation has carried over to our modern celebrations of Christmas thousands of years later.

But how can we celebrate Him in the shadow of Santa, Christmas trees, snowmen and stockings? We find that it is okay, that each of the elements of Christmas we cherish, even those of a secular nature, can add to the light of Christmas.

How does it stack up to all of the past Rankin/Bass specials they’ve covered? Is Santa as big a jerk in this one as he is in many of the previous ones? All of this, and much more, will be revealed in this episode so you’ll just have to listen to find out! So settle back with your favorite drink beside your Christmas tree and enjoy! And please accept our apologies in advance regarding the audio in this specific episode – there were microphone problems and echo problems throughout the recording. Rudolph and His Many Talents

Rudolph is the subject of a new episode of the North Pole Podcast that is turning a lot of heads. Elf Crash Murphy shares never before known information about Santa’s most famous reindeer.

Rudolph is famous for having a red nose that “lights like a light bulb” and has been utilized by Santa in bad weather situations more than once to save Christmas.

In the story, made famous by a book and song, Rudolph is bullied by other reindeer for his unusual physical features and abilities.

But in this episode Elf Crash explains that what you hear in the song and read in the book is not quite totally accurate – and that it, in fact, depicts other reindeer wrong. Donner, who is Rudolph’s father, is assailed in the story and the television special as insensitive to Rudolph and ashamed of his appearance. Elf Crash tells us this is not true.

Even more importantly, Crash tells us that there is a lot more to Rudolph than his blinking nose. And that could be the most surprising revelation of all.

Things You Don’t Know About Rudolph

Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, as the world knows him, is indeed the most famous reindeer of all. Yet few really know his true story.

In this episode Elf Crash Murphy, Santa’s eye-in-the-sky reporter elf who just happens to know all of Santa’s reindeer, shares never before disclosed information about Rudolph. This information is so new and so unknown that even Elf Frank Myrrh did not know about it.

Rudolph, who is the son of Donner, famous leads out Santa’s team each year with his famous red nose. But he is not the leader of the reindeer. He is just out front. His job is more fully explained in this episode, as are the differences between Rudolph and his also-famous father, Donner.

But even more surprising in this episode are the details that are shared about Rudolph’s thoughts, feelings and opinions. We also learn of other incredible talents Rudolph has and how he uses them quietly help in the service of Santa and Christmas.
